I visited a few aviation places this week with James Kightly (JDK). We saw four Mosquitoes in three days - not bad going I thought. Here's the MOTAT Mossie on Wednsday: Here is Jerry Yagen's Mossie at Avspecs on Monday: The other Mosquito is there too but photos are not allowed. And here is Glyn Powell's lovely Mossie project. What a thrill it was to see this looking so advanced. Hard to photograph in the tight space but these might give an idea: One of the moulds and lots of patterns, etc: Glyn has oodles of components all built and/or restored ready to attach, here he has a wingtip: If anyone wants to see more, sing out...

Theyre awesome pics Dave, its a shame my old man didnt live long enough to see a decent restoration of one-although he did see a great example at the DH place north of London.

Did the guys at Avspecs say if it was going to be finished for WOW at Easter? It will be tight by the look of it.

Whose brIght idea was it to paint the bang seat triangle on the Vampire? How come if it was used by 14 Squadron at Tengah it has 75 Squadron markings on it ( a unit who never used it even as an instructional airframe.)
I was hoping that maybe Motat had improved over the years but it seems not. Sigh.

Jaw has dropped. I had no idea Glyn's own project was so far ahead. Awesome photos Dave, thank you!

And it is the work of three men, though for well over a year only two have been working on it, Glyn and Mike. A remarkable achievement thus far. Let's hope they find the funds to complete itand get it flying.

The triangle was on it in 2002 as I have just check some of my photos of it but I will have to dig further to see if it was on in the 70's.
As far as I am aware Motat have not done any work on it as they have more than enough to do to get the other aircraft ready to go into the hangar i.e, TBF, DC3, Solent, Sunderland and Ventura that I am aware of. They have also been working on the Auster and Magister recently. I shall post some fairly current photos of these on the Motat thread to give you an idea of what going on.

Although it is off topic, the Vampire left RNZAF service after being an Instructional Airframe at the Aircraft Finishers School, No. 1TTS, Hobsonville so having "wrong" markings on it is probably quite indicative of its actual service life.

Many thanks Dave, great New Year's Tour for us to see them, I too am pleased and surprised at Glyn's own one's development- Am astonished that just two of them have got it so well under way. He always seems to be helping others with theirs... Cheers

I should mention that other workshops are working on components of course. Currently Stan Smith is doing Glyn's rudder. And Pioneer are doing a magnificent job of Jerry's fuel tanks.

Hi Dave,
might I suggest you post these images on the Key Publishing Forum to show them what can be done; I know you've been joining in on the vigorous debate there. I know they would be interested to find out how far the project has come.
