Okay, who's going to be first to post a shot of the Triple landing at WLG this morning?
I can't believe how many(other) people managed to happen to be there at the time.....................!

Heaps of people on the hill Wexford road bit of a traffic jam too. 777 pulled up effortlessly with lots of runway left

Unfortunately I didn't get there for the landing but here is some of it on the ground and taking off. Used less than half of the runway to get airborne, with it lifting off to the south and rotating near the aero club. Very impressive to see. Beautiful pictures.
I don't "get" the tail paint treatment of the Koru. Looks like a touch-up overspray waiting for masking and finishing.

That Koru paint scheme has been around the AIRNZ fleet for years, I guess it's a blending effect

One of my coworkers went down to the fenceline to check this bird out.
She commented on how little of the (relatively short) Wellington runway it needed to lift off, and how quiet the plane was compared to much smaller aircraft.

Heres a short video taken by my other crew member which really shows the short take-of roll -

This shot = primo Nice set, disappointed I wasn't able to get out to the airport myself. I did watch the final approach from my work in Gracefield though.

Random trivia for the day.... The -300ER has an additional hydraulic actuator that connects the forward end of each main gear truck to the shock strut. During takeoff, the actuator locks to restrict rotation of the main gear truck and allow takeoff rotation about the aft wheel axle, thereby improving aircraft performance capability (i.e. moves the rotation point aft which allows a higher nose angle on liftoff as compared to a unlocked truck).

I did read that about the locking mechanism specific to the B777-300R. A clever and thoughtful input to the B777. Reports suggest that Air NZ declined the option stating that overnight parking in Auckland with an unlocked truck would inevitably lead to the theft of the truck and/or it's contents. Insurance companies were also reluctant to cover the obvious risk.
