Thanks Gavin. Fantastic. Pardon my ignorance but I thought that style of roundel (with the red circle) was in 6 positions not 4? ?

A stunning collection of photos Gavin, and I think one of the best sets (or groups of sets) you've taken.
When I see the photos of the P-40C next to the P-40E, it looks sharper, slicer, meaner and more meaningful somehow. Before i saw this aircraft in the flesh i thought the early P-40's were ugly but now I love them. A real privilege to see come together and fly.

Mein Gott, that looks like it just rolled off the production line, only cleaner. Beautiful pics, mate, just beautiful.

rnzaffan - this was restored by Avspecs at Ardmore, and is a genuine P-40C. The one you are thinking of at Tauranga is a replica P-40E made from scrap metal and lots of wood (and looking great)

Great photos there Gavin The aircraft has an interesting history - AK295. Came out of Russia and was 'rebuilt' by Tom Wilson in Georgia, USA for another customer. It's almost 100% new sheet metal but a lot of original components from several aircraft. How do I know this - because I helped rivet it up back in 1997 / 98 Wings were built by Precision Aerospace in Wangaratta, Australia. But Warren & his team did a wonderful job completing the aircraft - not trying to take anything away from them, just a bit of background - they built an outstanding aircraft and the result speaks for itself. rgds Hvd1041

Pictures worth a thousand words - including "slicer" (!) - or does that make 1001...? :-)

Great photos Gavin. I understand the aircraft was quite a challenge in some areas to recreate/rebuild. Very rewarding for them to get it into the air. The Avpecs guys have done a fantastic job

Warren told me last week that the aircraft will be at Oshkosh this year so if any forum members are going and can post a photo or two that would be great.
