Im not so sure about the Macchis though , that will be interesting to watch . Obviously being over this side of the ditch I'm missing a lot of what is going on back home but I was interested in the Macchis. Are there some seriously based rumours floating around that with the Defence white paper that they might be reactivated? Would that mean a reforming of 14 Sqn or a new, differently tasked squadron? Anybody heard any whispers? Interested to know.

I've just sent them an email asking for more information! I have had a reply! No specifics but it sounds like our aircraft alright. US$22M for the lot or US$1M each. Who wants to form a syndicate? Seriously... I'm thinking of putting in a silly offer for one or two. I have asked for more info and a copy of the letter of interest to sign. Barnsey - are you in!

If that is the case and ours are the aircraft in question, I can't help but think that puts a serious dent in any chances of any of them winding up on display anywhere in NZ without some serious benefaction involved .

Yes it raises a lot of questions - some of which I have asked them for clarification but haven't heard back yet.
What restrictions will be placed on any sale by the US State Dept.? Will the new owner(s) be allowed to fly them or are they being offered just as static museum pieces? Do they come with any spares/support equipment?
Previously Ernst & Young had sole rights to sell them. I wonder where they now fit in with these guys advertising them?

I hate it when things turn into last minute madness. Any return gained will be pitiful compared to whats been spent already. Cut the losses, they all deserve to stay here.

Pete Hodgson being liberal with the truth I see... claiming they never fired a shot in anger. Obviously forgetting about the incident with the rogue fishing trawler.

Hmm, it was just about the money spent so far on storing them, which was $2,148,805 from memory.
That twat Hodgson from Labour is still banging on about them being "never firing a shot in anger". How the hell did that nerk ever get to be a Defence Minister. I'm amazed he's still in Parliament actually. he was our worst Energy Minister that I can think of, forcing electricity and petrol up, up, up. And he killed the Skyhawks and hobsonville and stuffed up a lot more for Defence.
It's just like his idiot leader Phil Goof who yesterday on Breakfast blamed the current Government for reducing the budget on biosecurity causing the kiwifruit disease (which is an uncorroborated nonsence in itself - and negates the fact that under Labour the likes of Didymo, Varroa bee mite, red ants, the Gypsy Moth and the Salt Marsh Mosquito all got into the country) but he had to throw in that the Government was more concerned with wasting $800 million on self defence missile systems for the Navy's ships than on 'more important things'. Considering that Labour bought the Navy ships that are plagued with troubles and have no decent self defence systems yet expect them to operate in dangerous conditions such as UN operations that the Government send them on. What would Goof say if a frigate was sunk by a missile in the Gulf losing hundreds of lives thanks to not having a self defence system. I hope Labour and Goff never get voted in again.

Bugger I missed it. Hopefully it will be on line to view soon.
I can assure you Safe Air has been paid a lot more that $13k - I was paid more than that alone when I worked for them in 2002! The original latex job that melted in the rain was reported at the time to have cost $100k. Safe Air have earnt tens of millions on this over the last 9 years (including the Macchis).

I hate it when things turn into last minute madness. Any return gained will be pitiful compared to whats been spent already. Cut the losses, they all deserve to stay here. Yep it all looks like a last, final (desparate!) attempt to save face and try and recover some of what has been wasted over the last 9 years. Official Information Requests are interesting things. You have to be very specific with what you ask for - the officials will only give you only what you ask for. I suspect this One News story is a case of poor research and reporting by someone who doesn't know a Macchi from a Skyhawk.
