Super photos Kode, really neat. You were really lucky to get to have a look over this ship. I'll bet it was exciting for you to get to go aboard. Just a note, when you use photobucket please post the links which start with as they're the ones that allow the photos to appear in the page, rather than just a url link. I have changed these ones and the ones in your Iroquois post so they work. Cheers.

When I scanned these pics, I blew them up and could see the weathering that the aircraft suffered. And the ship by the looks! 'Connie' looks to have been at sea for some time before arriving in Singapore...I briefly saw her once along with the 'Kittyhawk' while on a bus in San Diego in early 1990. Thanks for posting these and your other pics, very atmospheric

The Connie was quite weathered since this was on our way home after departing San Diego in Feb. Coming into Singapore she had been at sea for over a hundred days (101 line period to be exact) and had suffered a collision at sea. If you look closely at the picture of the aft port side you can see the missing radar that was dislodged during said collision.
I was on my first cruise with the VAW-116 Sun Kings flying the mighty Hummer. Had watch the night of the collision.
Lots of memories from these pics.

Beautiful and very interesting pics I was lucky to go on the Connie back in 99 and if memory serves me right it was her last cruise before retirement. Being post 9/11 I was able to get up close to the Tomcat and certain areas down below. At the time I was age 24 and it amazed me how young so many of the crew were and they looked like they should still be in school, so young but yet playing such a big part within this ship. Ive been to Duxford and Ive seen many a military plane with my travels but seeing the Tomcat was fantastic

Wow, what a fantastic collection of photos. All those truly awesome aeroplanes and helicopters on an awesome ship. The size of some of those carrier borne aircraft still amazes me.

Just glad you guys get to see them. Also thought that they could be could reference material for modelers. funny you should say that, I just got back from my local IPMS club night where there was a very cleanly built E-2C on the table. My immediate thought was that the wings weren't scruffy enough underneath from being folded back along the exhaust flow like in one of your photos
