Any idea how those accidents happened Mike? Especially the hole in the fuselage roof!? Did the truck simply drive into it or was there more to it I wonder?

Geez, I didn't NAC flew their DC-3s to Antarctica! ;D
Where was that photo taken?
That Skyliner scheme really did look good on those NAC DC-3s.

Several shots of AWP not at its best, Accidents do happen. No they don't, not in aviation, they are caused! Snow shots are at Mt Cook a few years ago when it went off the side of the runway.

That Skyliner scheme really did look good on those NAC DC-3s. I reckon that was the best colour scheme used by NAC. On page 85 of the 2003 book, The Aircraft of AIR NEW ZEALAND and affiliates since 1940 by Paul Sheehan, there's a photo of the cover of one of NAC's airline review magazines featuring a picture of one of the then upcoming 737s in that classic colour scheme. It would have been great to have seen that livery adopted by the 737s when new, even if only for a short time.

Dave, the hopper through the roof incident 13th November 1976 at Gisborne. Pilot Basil Martin had to exit through the cockpit hatch. The hydraulic ram that lifted the static loader blew out, a big hole out the side which caused the "incident", a sudden collapse. It had no safety stop on it like the loaders have, just in case of hydraulic failure, but one was installed after this incident. One second earlier and it would have been a totally different story.

Scary, it must have been a hell of a force to do that.

I don't mind my website photos being used elsewhere, it's when I don't get a credit that pisses me off. I must point out that I was just on your website and noticed a couple of my pictures appearing several times uncredited.

AWP in Tonga after a repaint May 6th 2010. Thanks to Craig Emeny for the photo. Strange, I can't see a photo just the word image. But when I reply I could see the code for the photobucket image. Is it my browser or does anyone else not see the photo. I can see the others by the way.

I can see the photo no trouble. It looks very nice in its new paint. Wonder what the markings will be.

When I was in Tonga some years ago, the Nukuʻalofa - Vava'u flights were flown by Twin Otter and HS748.
I can see the appeal to some of a commercial DC-3 flight, but I have had enough experience of NAC DC-3s not to be totally over the moon at the prospect.
