Great news Graeme like the dual liveries on AZB. Have noted BBX over the last 5 days going to work to the north is it likely that AZB will go back to full time work also Two Ag Beavers for Gisborne ??

Hi Allan, I think Hallett will keep her just for show now as he has appeased his Bank Manager There will be 4 Beavers at Gisborne and Gavin Conroy is coming to take some Air to Air photos of them together as well as all the others there. Hopefully there will be a topdressing XL750, Cresco and Fletcher so those 3 together also would be great.

Great idea, the two liveries. She was in the ECAS style when I first saw her (GS 9/1/62) and I stand to be corrected but think the ECAS wording was in blue?
Someone posted a great air-to-air shot of their Fletcher recently (BHC?) and it was in the scheme I remember on AZB

No photo Graeme, only a coloured 48-year-old memory.
Did we have colour then?

To save anyone else searching, the classic b & w photo of BHC is on Page 51 of the "Fletcher" thread

I hope lots of photos are taken of AZB and the rest of the participating aircraft at the reunion, sadly I can't make it due to shifting into a new place. It is wonderful to see the new-old scheme, I hope Hallett takes her to Masterton in January.

I recall a Beaver in Hokitika some years ago with Wilderness Wings. A bit of research shows her to have been ZK-CKD, now in Aus as VH-SWB, some pics here www.dhc-2.com/cn1557.htmlThey sure had an impressive sound. Steve.

Out of interest, how many fighter pilots are attending the reunion? Is John 'Snow' Barr there? Or Guy Robertson? Or John Riddell? Wally May? Or any of the others who went on to be topdressing pioneers?

I can remember ZK-CKD flying tourist sightseeing flights from Franz Josef Glacier in the 1990s, although I can't recall exactly when. It was being operated from the old river-gravel airstrip immediately adjacent to the township. The Mount Cook skiplanes also used to operate from the same strip. Wilderness Air had an office on the main drag (SH6) at Franz Josef back then.

94 year old Guy Robertson was in attendance, John Barr was supposed to be there but did not show. 88 year old John Riddell does not venture away from home now.

John Barr is a really crackingly great chap. I really enjoyed spending a few hours with him and Rusty Gash talking about their Corsair days. John Riddell flew P-40's in combat as well as Corsairs but he sadly doesn't want to talk about it these days. I have asked him if he'd be interested in doing an interview but he declined. I would love to interview Guy Robertson someday soon.

From memory WW still had her at the time of the 1994 wanaka airshow but she would seem to have gone across the ditch soon thereafter. I can remember being impressed with the way the interior was finished, especially so now I find she was an ex topdresser. Steve.

When Fieldair retired their fleet of Beavers, many of them had the engines and propellors removed, then they were hung up (literally suspended) from the roof beams in the big Fieldair hangar at Gisborne Airport. I can remember being shown through the hangar once and seeing all those Beavers hung up, suspended from the roof. Then, as Fieldair gradually over a period of time found buyers for the Beavers, engineers working in the Gisborne hangar took them down one-by-one and overhauled them, then fitted them out for their new owners and over a period of time they all headed off elsewhere. Eventually, Fieldair disappeared from Gisborne altogether. I can recall them operating Fletchers for a short period of time after the DC-3s retired, but it wouldn't have been too long timewise before they stopped flying and became soley an aircraft engineering business based at Palmerston North, although they did operate their subsidiary airfreight operation for a few years, hauling Speedlink parcels for the railways.
Some of you may be aware there is a council-owned theatre in Gisborne called the Lawson Field Theatre.
