Gawd, I must be ancient, I went to the 3rd NZ Grand Prix at Ardmore with my Dad, that was the first year that Stirling Moss came to NZ with his Maserati 250F. He won! In case you can't rmember the 1st GP was won by Stan Jones (An Aussie) and the 2nd GP was won by a Prince Bira (A Thai)

I thought my photos might bring a few memories back.
As we walked into the track, my mates father (Dunlop tyre supplier manager from way back) was approached by racers he hadn't seen in 20+ years. Awesome to watch!!! And then the stories started about the quiet beers with Hulme, Maclaren, Amon, and later Kenny Smith who of course is still driving.
Being just youngster (relative term) I remember flying from Stratford to Ardmore for the Wing and Wheels days in the late 80's... even that is over 20 years ago

It was also bloody exciting racing, unlike the crap that F1 has become (and will get worse now that Schumacher is back, dear god...) Whatever else I might say about it, A1GP was a vast improvement on F1. All through varsity I stayed up late for every race, just to watch a certain red car go unchallenged from wire to wire. YAWN!!! These days I reckon TV motorsport coverage (particularly if you are into bike racing) is a luxury largely restricted to the customers of Sky.

I totally agree with you agile, on both points. I don't have Sky, can't afford it and frankly think it's a waste of money as there's very little worth watching on there apart from F1 and All Black games. And F1 got very boring after Mika Haakinen left.
