Nice pics Dave. Loved the roar of the Hornets as they departed. There were a few of us Jetstar crew in the carpark closest to the runway waiting patiently for their departure. Shame we did not catch up.

Awesome photos Dave, welcome to the forum. Nice shots on your link too Colin. That emerald green sea really adds to it. .
You'd think the poor old fatty C-17 would have taken off first, he'd be struggling to keep up with his mates all the way home.

He'd be carrying the ground crew who dispatched the aircraft, so has to be the last to leave.

Thanks for posting the great photos guys. I also got out to the airport for 8:30, but couldn't skive off work all day unfortunately...

Nice photos guys. Doesn't the sleek Hornets make the Globemaster look like a flying pug dog? ;D (Apologies to Globemaster drivers!)

At approx 1315 I was parked in my bus at a playing field on the outskirts of Brisbane bemoaning the fact that I knew they were coming and that there was no way that they would be flying over this neck of the woods...... when in fact they did. 4 F111S in line astern barrelled across the playing fields, I thought that I had missed the Hornets, when they also appeared in an arrow formation.(Im sure there is a description for this formation but the F111s followed by the Hornets, looked like an Arrow.) Also in the mix and flying off their port side was a RAAF Hawk which I would imagine was the platform for the photos. A really exciting and totally unexpected display. Awesome, as they say.

does anyone know why they didnt go to whenuapai? was the tanker to big to get in there maybe? or was it because its a civilian tanker maybe instead of a military one? Whenuapai's runway is noticably shorter, this may have limited fuel load. Auckland landing fees aren't cheap, I assume that Whenuapai just wasn't going to work. A comment from one of the tanker crew over at Neptunus Lex

That's very interesting, Errol: doesn't really say much, but at the same time, says a lot! Thanks for posting that. I'd say Omega will have plenty of work to keep them occupied for the foreseeable future, especially if the KC-X competiton debacle keeps dragging on and on and on.

Volunteers to go up to Ipwich and trawl bars, offering to buy drinks for tomcat RIOs?

I'll ring my boss next week: "Sorry, can't come in to work for the next few days, as I've met a really interesting bloke at a pub in Ipswich...." ;D
