With the kind permission of Noel Waters of the Ashburton Aviation Museum (who took this photo) here is a shot of privately owned T11 Vampire NZ5707 and, on display by the Ashburton Aviation Museum, FB5 Vampire NZ5769 and GR3 Harrier XZ129. They were moving the planes around and giving some of them a wash so Noel asked for this lineup. If anyone is going to Warbirds over Wanaka check out the Ashburton Aviation Museum display where more photos of the collection are to be displayed I believe. Interesting to see an RNZAF Vampire in camouflage as you usually see the overall silver colours. If I recall correctly this aircraft was ex RAF and was a training airframe? Can someone confirm?

yes and full of those pesky mosquito insect things. Walk through a bit of long grass and they swarm up everywhere.

Great photo Baz, thanks for posting. Is the two seater in the musuem on loan? Or just visiting?
Edit - sorry, removed what I wrote as I was getting confused with MOTAT's FB9 which is the one that the RNZAF used in Singapore, sorry.

Nice photo! Unfortunately the last time I was at Ashburton airfield we only had time for a touch and go, but next time I'm in town I'll definitely have to check out the museum!

NZ 5707 is Phillip Burns's Apparently its owned by someone else now who did start plans to get her airworthy and had a suitably qualified LAME lined up to do the work. Unfortunately the engineer died with Sir Kenneth Hayr (Think I spelt his last name incorrectly) in the T11 crash in the UK several years ago. Unsure if the owner still plans to fly her at this stage.

Mention has been made of Sir Ken Hayr's ex-Swiss Vamp at the New Zealand Flightsim Forum - restoration to airworthy is slowly progressing.

It would be great to see another two-seater Vampire flying. I know they are the nicer version to fly (according to what Vampire pilots have told me) and they are more practical as warbirds as two-seaters, but I'd love to see an FB.5 fly one day.

Are there any Fb5 Vampires flying anywhere? I've only seen the single-seat ex-Swiss Venoms myself. Wasn't there an Fb3 Vampire that crashed in th USA recently?
