Are they actually doing some practice bombing while they're at Ohakea, or are you meaning mock bombing runs for the WoW practice?
Bulls could do with a good dose of HE! ;D

Last I heard they are doing LGB practice bombing, I think at Waiouru.
Was going to be full on HE, but got scaled back.

Thanks for posting that link to your photo, Peter.
Those photos of the Skyhawks in their early years of service really show why the drop tanks needed to be camouflaged!

Fantastic shots there, and it's good to see some nice shots of Strikemasters.
I saw the Vampire at the Ohakea Open Day in 2006, and it was being restored. Not sure what is happening with it now though.

We are all pretty lucky to be able to take these shots here in NZ. When I went to the UK and stopped through Crete, they were not so happy when you took photos. I was taking some of a either Greek or Turkish Mirage and he stopped, shook his fist then some men came and saw me a few minutes later to tell me off and wanting to confiscate my camera.

I saw the Vampire at the Ohakea Open Day in 2006, and it was being restored. Not sure what is happening with it now though. The Vampire is all restored and ready to go back up its pole, but they are moving the main gate to out by State Highway 1 at the moment. Where the Vampire was at the old main gate is where the new base telephone exchange is being built. The whole wooden nose section has been replaced by a spaceframe and fibreglass replica (a mould was taken of the original before it was chopped off).

Nobody said I couldn't do it, and I was a young fella. Baldy White told me off later. Doug Crutch bribed them with some sqn stickers etc.

Curious question time: Was there something "wrong" with the Vampire's wooden nose section (eg rotted?) that necessitated the fibreglass replica? (Or was the real part needed for a flyable Vampire restoration project)?

The vampire was pretty well rotten after years up on the pole. It was lucky it didn't fall down by itself.

Please do, that would be cool Dave.
It's neat (and rare) to see so many Orions active together.

I was at that airshow as well, and remember the 3-ship Herc display quite vividly, I would love to see more pictures of that show.
