The magazine was the may 69 issue and it's got a bit harder as it isn't in the box with the rest of the Airfix magazine collection. I'll now have to do a search through the rest of the library (THAT could take a while!)
From memory it was the nose, fin and strake, and extra cockpit windows , not sure about the other windows, I think I added one by mistake and then had to fill it in.
For the nose I think (bear in mind this was 40+ years ago)I think I glued the Superfreighter nose doors together and the contour was correct for the fixed nose portion and doors. I then scribed the horizontal upper door line and cut out the area where the nose windows are, filled that area with perspex which was polished and the windows masked out.
I'll keep looking as, according to my database, I have the mag.

I did the conversion as per the magazine article back when I was in short pants which involved a solid balsa nose, a press moulded acetate chin windows and tail mods. I have one backed page of the article (front and rear plan views & pictures of model and NZ5906 at RAF Changi (don't know where the rest are) if Shorty is unsucessful.

It amazes me that Airfix have not done a version of the model as the more popular Mk 31 style.

The Airfix kit represents the aircraft as most British people would have seen it at the time , being operated as a faster option to the cross Channel ferrys .

Jenks, you've got me worried now as I can't find that magazine (the joys of shifting house so often I guess) All I have found so far is some tracings I took off the article. Send me a PM with your email addy and I'll send you a scan of those and I'll keep looking for that darn mag!

Wanye Thomas , a Hamilton modeller , made a beautiful model , from memory he had the Airmodel conversion kit but ultimately scratch built the conversion to the Airfix kit to produce an RNZAF machine . There was also a conversion and correction article in an Aussie modelling magazine .

Is it me or does the nose profile look wrong? It almost looks like a Carvair nose complete with cockpit.

The cockpit and its position on the Airfix kit is not quite right , which is probably why it looks odd .

Hi Steve, like shorty I know I have that Airfix issue somewhere! In the interim for those interested I do have the Heron/Devon converison issue (Noted your excellent although frustrating to make Devon at your dad's the other day) Also for the forum I am cleaning out my unmade plastic model collection, and have 36 mostly RNZAF types 1/72 scale up for offers. Includes the superfreighter, vampires, hudson, P3-C Orion amongst others

Wow, those look stunning Steve. Well done. I'm looking forward to seeing more in the series now.
Will the Bristol Freighter be in the silver scheme or the later camouflage?
