Does anyone know when the Sunderland tail fin etc will be put back on ? Andrew, a little birdie has sprouted it's tail feathers again. The Wednesday team have done a great job to raise the fin and rudder and both stabilizers and secure them all safely to the Sunderland. The elevators will be attached soon. Also during the week the scaffolders have made good progress on erecting the shelter for the Solent and it's now more than half finished.

That is an impressive set of scaffolding around the Solent. IMG_0488 by tankienz, on Flickr I must admit Meola Road facility and the rebuilds look really professional.

Found it. I have one more photo that I want to add; These guys showed me round the place many years ago, when I came over from the UK. I believe Ray Gasparich has since passed away. Ellin Gasparich McKelvey

Great photos Grant. That's a nice one of the workers. Ray showed me over the Avenger about 10 years ago when they first started work on it, and he pointed out all the areas of heavy corrosion and how much work it was going to take, and how many new rivets. He was confident, and time proved he was right, as the Avenger now looks great.

Yep, it makes for a great day when you have the locals taking you round. They were kind enough to open the Solent and Sunderland, as well as various other things. Really great guys. When I worked at East Fortune, our radar guys supplied drawings and other useful info on the H2S scanner fitted to the Lancaster from one we had. I can't remember the guy at MoTaT's name, but we had a bit of correspondence between us.

Many, many years ago, while visiting MOTAT, Ray Gasparich explained to me exactly how Bristol sleeve-valve engines worked.
He had a unique way of simplifying it in a way, that even a couple of non-mechanically-minded friends who were with me at the time, could understand it from his explanation.
I seem to recall he had a really dry way of speaking, but he animated his explanation with his hands to demonstrate how the various parts worked.

The Freighter looks good with all the bird poo washed off, pity they mismatched the colours on the rudder.

Looks more like they were going for a Dk.Grey/Dk.Green(ie,Europe1) instead of Lt.Green/Dk.Green.Must have mixed it up with the Andover.

I think it is still wearing its same paint that it left service with, isn't it? So the mismatch is probably from the end of the type's service when matching paint would not have been a high priority.
