Dear folks!
Some time ago, I started researching on AVM Sir Keith Park's personal Hurricane 'OK1' to release a Flightsim repaint.
I found out that MoTaT holds a (quite worn looking) replica of this aeroplane as gate guardian, bearing the serial P3854.
Does anyone know if this is the true serial of the Hurricane he used during the Battle of Britain?
Any help appreciated.
Cheers, Markus.

Hi Markus,
P3854 was issued to the Commanding Officer of No.85 Squadron, Sqdn-Ldr Peter Townsend at Church Fenton on the 21st of September 1940, when he rejoined his Squadron after recovering from a wound to his left foot. This injury was incurred when he was shot down in P3166 on the 31st of August. P3854 may well have been Sir Keith Park's personal Hurricane before being sent to 85 Sqdn, but I have not been able to confirm this. Sorry I have not answered your question fully but I hope this helps.

MOTAT's Hurricane replica is no longer worn looking, it has a very nice fresh coat of paint and was re-erected in December 2009. It's still in the same scheme.
Doesn't Auckland War Memorial Museum hold Sir Keith's logbooks along with his uniform and medals? That would confirm the serial I'd think.

Markus,
Park's OK-1 was coded N2520.

Thank you for your replies, gentlemen! Good to hear that the gate guardian was made over - she looked very sad on the pic I saw... I've found the P3854's assignment to Sqdn-Ldr Townsend before, but since it's said that he received the aircraft in September 1940 and on the other hand Park took command of No. 11 group in April 1940, both facts get together quite well. In a simulated surrounding like FS, this should be confirmation enough... edit@ Tim: Any source for this? I've only found this one: forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=5664Cheers, Markus.

P3854 fits. This Hurri. was built in Block 3, a production run of 544 aircraft delivered by Hawkers commencing on 21st Feb.40 and completed on 20th July 40. P3854 was built in the middle of this Block, approximately, and thus a delivery date of mid-April seems likely. Source www.k5083.mistral.co.uk/index.html

Markus, Park's OK-1 was coded N2520. HTH, Tim Confusion here: OK-1 are the code letters/figure, N2520 is the aircraft's serial number. Errol

So Bill, is this a scheme for CFS2 or 2004?

The repaint will be based on Robert Sanderson's awesome freeware FS2004 Hurricane. There may be a CFS2 conversion of the model, presumably available at Sim-Outhouse. I'll check this...
Cheers, Markus.

Hi folks, it's an old thread but I thought I'd ask my questions here rather than start a new one. I'm building OK-1 P3854 over on Kiwimodeller for the Battle of Britain Group Build. I have limited data available at present but I'll post finished photos on here soon. I've only got until 31 October. I can only find one historical photo of Keith Park standing next to the starboard side of OK-1 with the Codes K-1 visible. To me the codes look smaller than those on other Hurricanes, certainly smaller than those on the replica, and the Codes look White in colour. Can anyone confirm what size and colour the Codes OK-1 were on the aircraft? Also, were there two OK-1s or, when references say Keith Park had two personal Hurricanes, do they mean OK-1 and OK-2? Was there another OK-1 serialled N2520? Appreciate your assistance as always and hopefully I'll have some nice pics of the finished model built using the new tool Airfix kit, which is a good one. Cheers Wally.

I realised this preservation page is not the appropriate page for this essentially modelling question, so I have moved it to the model making page. Wally.
