I was about to finish a 1/24th P51K in Korean War colours when I came across this thread - I never realised NZ had Mustangs (or maybe I did, but my brain is fuzzy) - can anyone supply a set of codes and colours for a Canterbury based machine? I've done a quick interweb search and found a photo, but it looks as if the Canterbury Squadron aircraft had a Waikato coloured checkerboard? Tell me it isn't true!

I've done a quick interweb search and found a photo, but it looks as if the Canterbury Squadron aircraft had a Waikato coloured checkerboard? Tell me it isn't true! Definately not. The Canterbury squadron wore red and black chequers only. See the current and longtime warbird Mustang ZK-TAF for the colour scheme. There are plenty of photos on the internet of that one. I don't believe anyone makes the NZ markings in 1/24th but at that large scale you might be able to mask them ok.

Hey cheers Fury, great photo, duly pinched to my hard drive 485Sqn, you might be pushed finding dedicated decals in 1/24 for the TAF crates. I'm getting mine from Ventura who do them in 1/72 and 1/48 for all 4 of the TAF Sqns. I suppose you could contact them and see if they could size you up a set in 1/24. Cheers Tim

Its a fairly simple colour scheme - I'll just paint them.

I'm slowly getting through the threads. Particular interest is the P-51D as I have two Airfix 1/24th currently undergoing scratch-build. Smithy, if you've not already, take a gander over to the p51sig.com/index.php. Lots of knowldgeable chaps. The site lost a lot of valuable intel when they had to switch hosts, pretty much the font of all knowledge. Not hard to register and they'll be happy to have you on board, even if you only make one! Word in interiors seems to be IG up to the horizontal former, where it's painted black above for anti-glare purposes. Natch, TAF Stangs had slight differences, as Dave and Tony point out, so there might be variations with which I'm not familiar. Cheers Ross
