There are several threads on the forum about the Sunderlands, Catalinas, and 1TTS aircraft that were laid up and eventually scrapped there. It would pay to have a search. They from a while back I'd think.

I was a young kid at Beach Haven in those days and the kids about 10 years older than me used to go across to Hobby and bring back all sorts of bits and pieces. Then it was fun but today they would be criminals!

I've got a handful of pics from Rotten Row to add here..................... 1st up, here is an aerial view of Hobsonville taken in the late '40s with "Rotten Row" up in the top left. According to the info on the back of the photo, Leo White took the photo by taking the plug out of the gun port in the C-47 window and sticking his camera lens through. As for individual aircraft on Rotten Row, let's start with C-47 NZ3501 (INST.114). I have a few more to come, Catalinas will be next...........................

Hairy, You are the man!!, been talking to my Dad today about these exact planes etc there, what would be really awesome but possibly impossible or non existant would be to find a photo which had oxfords in the shot around the same time as these shots, fantastic

awesome, dad told me the story behind the dakota on the weekend, question, what would the colours have been on the oxford? if only i could see the serial number........ thanks hairy As you can see by the above pictures the Oxford was NZ1318 which spent it's time at Hobsonville as Inst.116. According to Charles Darby's 'RNZAF, The First Decade 1937-46', NZ1318 was ".......yellow with 36-inch black stripes on all surfaces and black code letters." These colours were applied when it was attached to 1 Beam Approach Training Flight at Wigram. If you are interested, I have shots of other Hobsonville instructional airframe Oxfords.
