In the Airshows thread I mentioned that I had a couple of photos. I did not take them and am a little unsure of their provenance. However to protect the owner I am claiming them and others I will post on different subjects as copyright to my collection. If they are mine like the Mustang I have just posted I will of course claim the copyright myself. ;D First of all the Seafire. These photos must have been taken when the aircraft were being delivered to Hobby. It's interesting that the fuselage roundel appears to be painted out, more or less, and there isn't any underwing roundel on the starboard side.

Now for the Firefly. I might have to lighten this a bit as I have lost some detail!

Don't want to rain on your parade Keith but I was given copies of those photos by Bob Allen (Tech Officer at Te Rapa and REO Hamilton) when I was based at Te Rapa in 1974 so that may cast doubts on your copyright claim. He alos gave me ohotos of the Firefly when it was at Motuihe, the seafire being lifted by the crane in the background and others. I previuosly posted most of the in my"Some Photos from My Stash" thread.

Thanks Shorty. As I explained I actually didn't claim them but put a copyright on them to protect them from being distributed willy nilly. I hadn't seen your earlier post but it brings up the question of whether I should post such photos. I had taken the view that it is better to let people see them and I would be surprised if they have all been posted as I have over 100 photos. Unfortunately I am unsure of the provenance of many of them as I have had them for 40+ years. What does everyone think. Is it better to risk duplication or not post

I agree Keith, post them and share them but acknowledge that the origin is unknown.
The aircraft both look pretty rough in these shots, maybe this is when the Navy took them to HMNZS Tamaki.

I think, Dave that this is when they came back from Tamaki, interestingly I don't have photos of the Seafire at Tamaki, only the Firefly

I don't think duplication is the problem, I think it is the use of the word "copyright". As a lover of old photos I say "post away".

The aircraft both look pretty rough in these shots, maybe this is when the Navy took them to HMNZS Tamaki. I'm Shorty on this one, I think the photos at Hobsonville were taken when the two aircraft came back from HMNZS Tamaki, as they were both in much better condition when they were unloaded from HMS Theseus onto Western Wharf (now Wynyard Wharf) in September 1947.

I'm not sure of this and someone with more knowledge may be able to update me, but doesn't copyright expire after 50 years. If thats the case the photos would be out of it being 1947. Would like to have this confirmed.

Last time I looked it was 50 years from the death of the photographer (which is in most cases a bit later than the date of the photograph!).
Keith, don't let all this put you off posting your photographs. We do find them a valuable addition. I would suggest that if you didn't take the photo yourself just use the tagline 'Keith Bunyan collection'. That is true, traceable, and makes no claim to eventual copyright ownership.
Go to it.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I was uncertain how to handle these as I think this old collection which I had forgotten I had may be made up of photos in general circulation and perhaps some from mates which could be copyright to them. On reflection I am sure they wouldn't mind these fairly low quality but interesting shots being posted. I hope at least some of them are new. ;D

I say, who cares, I really enjoy looking at old photos, some never to be seen otherwise, bit of an old school attitude the way I see it, also when an older enthusiastic veteran tells you stories of their lives and you think, if only there was a photo of this and fm there they are, im just so grateful you guys have the photos and are willing to share,, thanks and over and out. Post away..who really cares...
So many publications come out with 'copyright the author' when they are easily recognizable IWM or US National Archives stuff.

what did you do today? I spent time with my Dad, and I put a merlin supercharger turbine and a few merlin nuts and bolts and a headbolt into 2 of the above Seafire ammo cases, i think i had a good day.
