ALBERT NEVILL STAPLES. NZ427338, AIR NAVIGATOR, F/SGT-W/O. 75(NZ)SQN, RAF. It is my sad duty to advise you of the passing of Albert Nevill Staples. The morning of Tuesday 20th Nov2012, suddenly and peacefully at home, in Christchurch. His family are organising a service to remember Nevill's life in the RNZAF Wigram Museum this Friday evening. Nevill had just celebrated his 90th birthday on Sunday, and his granddaughters wedding a few weeks ago. Nevill trained in RCAF Winnepeg as an Air Navigator in 1944, and crewed up with Fg Off William Evenden, an RAF pilot, and three other RAF and two RNZAF chaps. They flew with 75(NZ) Squadron from RAF Station Mepal March 2nd to July 1945. The Evendon crew flew their first Operation on the 5th of March. From the ORB pages of the Sqn, they completed 8 bombing Ops, one food parcel drop over the Hague, and four trips across the continent to view the effects of the bombing. They then moved with 75(NZ)Sqn to RAF Station Spilsby until 8th October 1945 training for Tiger Force. Following VJ Day eventual return to NZL. Nevill retired from the RNZAF as a Warrant Officer. He was married to Merle for 61 years. A son Greg and daughter Dale, who had three children each. The Christchurch Brevet Club and the Wigram Museum were Nevill's main focus in the past twenty years. And Nevill had also been an active, long time Committee member of the 75 Squadron NZ Association. Thank you Nevill. AkeAkeKiaKaha.
