Post the direct source URLs for the photographs at Photobucket or wherever else you have them stashed and someone will be sure to repost them using the correct formatting code so they display at this group. Mind you, these ProBoards-hosted groups can sometimes be a bit ornery about displaying images. I've found that often they will simply refuse to display some images until you change the file names and upload them again, yet the same images with the original filenames will display perfectly at other groups hosted by SMF or numerous other forum-hosting services. Also, ProBoards won't allow you to use alt= code to embed captions with posted photographs so the caption will be revealed when the cursor is held over the image. I don't know why these ProBoards groups are restrictive like that. In the meantime, here is a photograph of Union Airways' de Havilland DH.86 Express airliner, ZK-AEG “Karoro” (c/n.2331) over Dunedin in 1936....

These are wonderful photos Peter, thanks for posting them here. The Express and Dragon Rapide shots are of great interest to me as they became reconnaissance bombers in Fiji with No. 4 (GR) Squadron. It would be nice to clean a couple of these up and maybe use them in my book, down the track.
I interviewed Noel Hanna the other day, who was a fighter pilot in WWII, and his first flight had been in one of the two DH84's of East Coast Airways on their second ever flight with Ron Kirkup as pilot. They apparently kicked off the airline with some joyrides and he was a lucky boy to get a ride.
What else was there in that rubbish bin? So far you have produced some incredible shots.

Glad that you are enjoying them. I was in a bookshop this morning, its pelting down here in Auckland , and noticed that the shot of ADI has been used on the cover of MOTATs new book on the history of Aviation in NZ. It has cleaned up nicely. Dave , still in the "bin" are some shots of Union Airways Lockheeds , Auckland Aero Club and Mangere , and a bunch of Moth photos. The latter are quite mixed and include some taken 50s/60s but I am not expert enough to pick which are prewar. There arent any military photos, thats why this civvie stuff has sat in a scrap book for so long.

Thanks KTJ for the tip, renamed Proboards they all went through, apparently DeHavilland wasnt acceptable. Yep....I've struck EXACTLY that same issue many times in the past. ProBoards-hosted groups WILL NOT display images in messages where part of the image title includes “ deHavilland” — GRRRRRRRR!!!

That is very odd, I don't know why that is. What about de_Havilland?

Dave, help yourself to the photos for your book, when ready I will send hi def pdfs. I hope that the words Lockheed , Mangere and Moth doesnt upset the proboard system.

PJW. . . . these are lovely shots. Im currently on a mission to find something suitable in the classic de Havilland vein to blow up to 8m x 4 metres for the Ashburton Aviation Museum, and I need to come up with something that is suitable fairly quickly! . How do you think the hi res images you could generate would stand that sort of enlargement?

There's an outfit in Christchurch that can print a picture up to five metres x 50 metres in one go with NO joins. How'bout that?
