Thanks Zac. At one stage we had 5 or 6 Hiller 12E's on ag work, which i would pick as the rotary version of the Fletcher. Then we put turbine conversions in them. Now where have I heard that story before

Hi Allan, welcome to the forum. I knew Brian and your mother very well. I was an engineer for Whirlwide based in Timaru. Spent many hours at Rangiora, and in the field in North Canterbury servicing your Dads machine. Fond memories of his loader driver Dougy, cant tell you too much.

Workmate Blair Maconie on a hot summer day carrying out insection on 369C HIY. Based at Kaikoura ,flown by Noel Boyd. You can imagine how OSH would react these days. My late father ( C.J.B ) used to fly ZK-HIY. Do you happen to have any other pics of the machine/him?

Anyone recall working with Noel Waugh in Timaru at Whirlwide or elsewhere ?
He passed last week in Canada. Dad worked for Rudnick as well in the early days around Wanganui. Dad also worked for various Helicopter outfits in Canada and the states. United, Bow, Liftair and Dome Petroleum to name a few.

He is not in the original "The Topdressers" but several names did surface by "The Topdressers 1990". Sadly all the guys who would have known have passed away, well there is one, I'll ask him.

Thanks for checking, I'm not sure he was flying at that's time but believe he was doing maintenance.

Some cool old machines in this thread, lucky to do many trips in the below machine, she worked in the Methven/Mt Hutt area in the late 80s. Was sadly lost up the Rikaia River trying to rescue some fishermen.

Anyone hanging around Bridge Pa aerodrome (Hastings) in the 1980's would remember the distinctive sight & sound of Lyn Wilson's magnificent old Sikorsky S-55. I didn't get too many photos of the old girl back in the day but have fond memories of Wattie and the crew getting it together at Airepaire and test flying it at Bridge Pa Lyn reckoned it "flew just like a big Hiller" I understand it was lost due to a fire? Lyn put it down but was unable to extinguish it... sad!

I've got a large, framed colour photograph of ZK-HSS spraying crops at Paki Paki, looking at the helicopter head-on.
The photograph was published in the old Hawke's Bay Herald Tribune newspaper (which merged with The Daily Telegraph to form Hawke's Bay Today). I first saw the photograph in a newspaper clipping my mother sent to me, so I arranged for her to purchase a large print for me, then got it framed by Personality Framers in Gisborne.
It's a real classic action photograph.

It's a bit hard to get a decent photograph inside at night with only interior lighting, but here it is, although the colours look a wee bit washed out here. In the flesh, the colours are a lot brighter.... According to what I wrote on the back immediately after it was framed.... “ZK-HSS Sikorsky S-55 spraying squash crop at Paki Paki, February 1993”.

Great photo KTJ, I vaguely recall seeing that in the Tribune back in the day. What a noise the old girl made, you could here Lyn coming from miles off - I know he was devasted to lose her. As they say "Happiness is having a big chopper"

While I never saw Lyn's Sikorsky flying “in the flesh” I can remember Brent Emeny flying his S-55 at Warbirds Over Wanaka one year. I also recall him displaying it somewhere else at an airshow, probably in the North Island, but I cannot remember exactly where.
