As part of a course I did at CIT in 1990 we did a field trip to Wellington airport and the wharf helipad. This was when HNZ had just started flying Harbour Pilots out to incoming vessels. HNK was the machine there in Dec 1990. We had a pretty free reign, so why not jump in an play pilots - a very young face in the right seat !! Not long after the crew came out and departed. So after doing a little research today I discovered that I'm now flying what was HNK here in Fiji. Amazing how these old workhorses get around and are still going strong.. Here it is now..

Supporting a mining exploration project about 15 minutes flight time from Suva, moving drills people etc.. Here's a shot of the camp.. Amazing part of the country.. The mountain range in the background is called the Korobasa basaga and features on the Fijian $2 note.

Hi, just found this thread re MFO Hueys in the Sinai, The MFO was set up outside the UN as the proposal was vetoed so the USA dragged in a few others, approached Egypt and Israel and so the MFO was born, Headquartered in Rome.
I was in the 4th rotation and at the time this was the only Sqn in an operational theatre.
488 was eventually diagnosed with considerable delamintaion of most of its honeycomb panels about the trans pylon and subsequently forwarded to Jerusalem for repair.
Tryin to smooth a rotor system with that problem is impossible, we had had the same problem with 3803 back in Hobby some years ago. At one stage we pulled the whole trans, rotor system from a known smooth aircraft and fitted it to the helo, only snag with that idea was thay an Aus test pilot insisted that all settings of the rotors be set to neutral, pcl's reset, trim tabs reser etc, despite debating with the guy for some time this was duly done negating anything we could learn from that exercise.
The Aussie maint system was a lot different to ours, some to the good and others not so good, for example, we had to do indepentent inspections on replacements of wiper arms, they had one come off once hence the inspection.
Apart from yhat it was a fun time, the Aussies had sent up a 15ft tinny with a big outboard and some water skiing gear, one of the kiwi crewman built a trailer for it but as we could not get insurance for it, there it sat, In Aus boat insurance is compulsory, the Aussies therefore followed those rules?
However we did tow it out in the desert a wee way and spent a very pleasurable afternoon fishing from it? Sunk quite a few tinnies doing that!

Time for a bump. Who has photos they can share of ZK-HJH, Wanganui Aero Work's UH-1H lost with Simon Green, Gene Crafar and John Mennie near Taumarunui on 04/06/2001? After some research I've found it was a Vietnam vet that took hits in combat on four occasions. E J Bleackley Collection by Zac Yates, on Flickr EJ Bleackley photo

Bump!
I'm still interested in any photos of ZK-HJH as above, as well as the Helicopters (NZ) 212s in the red and white scheme.
