All that chatter on 119.1 was it?

Sounds like a typical 119.1 weekend with people organising BBQs and asking how the wife is.

Well, I went to talk to the guy running "Te Kowhai Ground" to see whether it was practical to move CKE around to the display line. At the time he was standing on the fence trying to get decent reception with his little airband transceiver! He obviously couldnt hear what was going on, and frankly seemed out of his depth. Considering all the buildings, high ground trees etc around a handheld is completely useless. If SAA had been asked to be involved a bit earlier we could have offered the SAA Comms caravan - Its coming down for the Black Sands Fly in anyway. I could tell the likelyhood of moving an aeroplane a couple of hundred metres in that environment wasnt going to work, so gave the idea away. Probably a good thing as crowd barriers around static display aircraft did not exist, and I wouldnt want to get CKEs fabric poked and prodded by sticky - handed kids. I was really surprised to see a visiting US reg Beech Baron twin marshalled into the middle of the cow paddock where visiting aircraft were parked. It started sinking almost as soon as it stopped moving. Fortunately it didnt stay long, but it needed a huge amount of power to get out - a bit tough on the aircraft parked behind!

Nice shot of the Checkers there Colin. Is that your spare camera lense on the floor next to Jack? ;D Thanks Dave. No my camera doesn't use the white lenses. ;D Perhaps it is the rocket for recovery at low altitude? I was over by the Micro factory and noticed they were having problems with the little hand held transceivers Bruce. They should have given you a call earlier. Did anyone notice the Furio do a bit of gardening on its taxi in? I missed it or I would have photographed it as I was concentrating on a Tiger Moth taxing out. Chap next to me saw it and we saw the pilot come back to have a look and put the piece back in its place. Furio went over a rough patch and lurched forward with the prop taking out a chunk of turf. I saw the Baron come in and land but too many obstacles to get a pic. N254F visited Puanui and Te Kowhai Saturday now back at Ardmore. Cheers

I think that Baron is NZ owned and based, it just hasn't been re-registered for whatever reason. It lives at Ardmore normally. Unless I'm confusing it with another one because I know there is another US registered Baron floating around.

I also thought the Baron guy was pretty game bringing a high performance machine like that into a soft grass strip (albeit a long-ish one), but the guy made it look easy. Big ups! The pilot on the radio had an American accent, so I assume he brought the Baron with him from the US of A.
