As we mark the 63rd year since D Day, the Allied invasion of Europe, it is important to rememebr that around 10,000 Kiwis were there fighting in that campaign, most in the air, many more in the naval craft. www.nzhistory.net.nz/war/d-day/nzers-in-the-rafNew Zealanders made the first air to air kills that day, a great place in history. But not just our fighters, our bomber squadrons were there too, and 489 (NZ) Squadron from Coastal Command. Plus thousands of kiwis in RAF squadrons. I have had the privilege of talking with some of those New Zealand pilots who flew on D Day. Great men, all of them. For those who fought there and never came home, Lest We Forget
