I heard an interview on Sounds Historical (Radio NZ National) on Sunday night about the Navy Museum, and the curator said that work commences on the building of the new museum complex in the next few days, and they hope to have everything moved there by the end of the year, ready for a grand opening in March 2010.
They're also launching a book about the museum and including many veterans stories this week, according to the item. I don't recall what the title was, sorry.
The 'new' museum will be located in buildings built in 1896 at the former Navy base at Torpedo Bay.
I rememebr the RNZN announcing in Reveille that they were to build their new museum in 1991 during the Navy's 50th Anniversary, so this has been a long time coming.
