Actually it isn't 28 years because a certain ship was known to take the odd USN senior rate from VXE6 to sea occasionally in the early 1990's for a jolly. In 1991 at the RNZN celebrations of the Navy's 50th in a certain shaky city the USN turned up in dress uniform complete with a genuine chilli con carne for the BBQ after match function. Politicians mightn't liked each other but we had no issues. Been a long relationship between the two that was forged over many beers, tots and sea stories.
