My collection has been refined over the years, but includes: Extensive collection of newspaper and magazine cuttings (I have scanned a lot of articles into my system and donated the originals to the Air Force Museum); NZ Wings from 1970 to 2008 (stopped getting it because it become too international); collection of various aircraft magazines; collection of mainly NZ aviation (especially military) books; Several thousand aircraft photos and slides (just starting to digitise these for a future thread on this forum); A Lockheed orion commemorative medallion; A collection of pilots logbooks transcriptions (mainly ex Air Force Museum); A small collection of 1/72 scale models unmade (and unlikely to be made by me - keep an eye on Trade me as i try to sell them; A collection of cameras, ranging from a 1920 Kodak to late mechanical types; A large collection of Meccano, that I still "play" with; 6 computers; 13 1/2 grandchildren. And my wife wants me to get a job? ?

I've got three or four scrapbooks of newspaper clippings from the early 80s to early 90s but yet to scan them. A mixture of military and aviation stuff.

And add to this: what you used to have in your collection, no longer have, and really regret the fact. Cos I'm sure theres lots there too! Don't get me started, off the top of my head. - A complete WWII US Navy aircraft bore-sighting kit with full instructions and perfect optics - sold. - The illuminating "No Smoking, Fasten Seatbelts" sign from a Solent - lost during a move years ago. - A 100 or so, made and unmade, 1/72 models - sold when going overseas. - A huge collection of Air Ace, Commando and Battle comics - given away during a house move. - A flight suit ( a "party" one covered in badges) belonging to one of the Raven FACs who operated in the "black" in Laos during the Vietnam war - passed onto a collector before I realised its significance, last seen on a mannequin in a display at Air Expo 92. Blah, blah, blah.............. And from the "if only had the money pile", I was walking 'round Bankstown airport in the early '90s and was offered this......... ;D ;D

Have been dreading the thought of doing this one as the workshop storage area is full of stuff collected from the early seventies to the present day, and too much to do a complete inventory on. However, over 200 aviation books in library, including manuals, NZ aviation, etc. Apart from the Hind Trainer project that I have and work on in conjunction with Don Subritzky, I have an Allison engine, minus a few parts still looking for, an RR Merlin 25 also missing bits, and an otherwise complete Gypsy Major minus a carburettor. Did have a clean-out about 8 years ago when I shifted house (down-sized) with a lot of bits going to Don.

I'm liking the way this thread is starting to flesh out, thanks to those who have posted so far. I've always wanted one of those knee boards, I have only ever seen pictures. Where did you find it? Cheers mit Hi mit, I got mine off an ex.Air NZ pilot who was in the RNZAF in the '50s. Here's some pictures if you're interested....................... I do have a question for those more knowledgeable than myself, were these knee boards assigned to a particular aircraft, hence the red 25 and other crossed out numbers? Stan Smith also has one which he uses regularly after replacing the strap with something a bit more user friendly. Thanks for your reply, I was not aware they were assigned to particular aircraft, in which case if anyone ever see or knows of '76' I would dearly love to hear from you. It would be great to get it back to the old girl! Cheers

Thanks for those models ozrbfan, great stuff. I like them all. Lots of skill and imagination there. I love the Sea Boomerang. ;D Imagine a catapult version like the Hurricat, but a Boomercat.
There's a sub-board in the Modelling section for non-NZ topics. Any future projects and finished models would be great in there.

I don't really recall but I think mine were put into the coin album by country. I seem to recall having to pull loads out and rearrange them every time i got a new lot so I think they must have been by country.

Over the years I have had a lot of stuff squirelled away but most of it has been passed on. Amongst these items were a heap of harvard stuff. I was the SNCO i/c the American Skin Bay at 1 RD when they went out of service and all the components that were in the bay were to be dumped. Instead of ending up in the skip most of it gravitated to my place (I was living in a MQ at the time so it was a bit tricky), there were control surfaces, fairings, panels and similar. Eventually it was all donated to Darby and Subritzky for their projects. Also had around the same time a couple of fuselages on the front lawn, takes a bit of explaining, luckily we had receipts for those!
Of my other collections the one I appreciate the most is a full set of shoulder patches for the "Apollo" space missions. When I buy my house they are going under glass around the picture of Buzz Aldrin on the moon to form a coffee table top.

Nice collection!!
What's the story with the desert camouflaged Halifax? Where were Halifax bombers based wearing those colours?
Is the RNZAF 727 diecast?

that is a serious collection of models! Was that a Halifax used for freight or one used for dropping spies etc?

Thanks for the kind words. Corgi make this Halifax and check out this link to read the history of this particular aircraft... rather impressive and worthy of being immortalised in metal www.raf38group.org/dg396.htmDave - yes, the 727 is indeed made of diecast, it's a beautiful wee model, even has a swivelling nose wheel ;D
