Thanks Mac, I would hate to be rowing in a canoe when a plane is straffing you.
Dave, great story! Do you think they would of been Japanese sympathisers or just scared to death of the Japanese? If they were I would of just shot them out of their canoes

Most of them would have been in the situation that the Japanese would have killed them if they didn't comply, and the Japs took most of their food so to do the Japs a favour was a way to survive as they were probably paid in pigs or rice. So I doubt they admired the Japs one bit.

Yes true. On the subject of natives, did they have natives or fuzzy Wuzzies working for the Air force at the bases?
And also Dave, In that letter I sent you from Peter it says ''we have the niggas doing our beds'' the whole time I thought geez thats a bit racist, but someone told me ''niggas''were the new recruits that did all the low jobs.Does that sound right?

I have never heard of either things.
Fijian natives definately worked on the two main RNZAF stations in Fiji, but I have not heard of workers further up the chain at RNZAF Stations. Maybe in New Caledonia but not sure.
And I have never heard of that term used for new recruits. The RNZAF nickname for new trainee pilots and aircrew was Danga's or Dangaroos.

Uploaded with ImageShack.usToo big to be a P-38. I'll put my money on it being a B-25

Sorry to have to tell you this Luther, but you just lost your money.
It is a P-38.
My reason for thinking this is the shape of the fin and rudder.
Too rounded to be a B-25.
The "sit" of the plane is all wrong too.

Plane no. 132 is a Bell P-39 Airacobra.
USAAF.
The Marines did not operate the 'cobra.

Ok i'll admit you're right. Glad I didn't really bet money or I would of been broke.
The whole angle of it looks twisted, the left wing is pointing back and the back rudders are pointing to the right wing.

Yea USAAF sounds right, same as the P-38.
It could be from 12th FS USAAF.

Also the shadow of the oil cooler on the boom, only the first 9 B25 had dihedral, and of coarse the canopy bubble.

Fighter-type aircraft like the F4U (or the P-47, P-51, Spitfire, Hurricane etc) would all carry ordnance on the wings or, occasionally, a fuselage centreline hardpoint. Only aircraft designed to be bombers carried the ordnance internally, and even then many also could expand their bombloads using underwing pylons (eg Mosquito).
HTH.
Cheers, Mark

Thanks Mark.
Would the ones on the wings be rocket propelled or just drop bombs?
