Whilst searching for something completely different I stumbled onto this brilliant diary form a kiwi soldier in Egypt at the beginning of 1915. It is quite poignant to note the publication date that this appeared in the newspaper was the 26th of April 1915, when on the other side of the world this bloke and all his mates had probably just walked into hell at Gallipoli.
This is well worth a read. It's not too long. I never realised that there was battle going on next to the kiwi camp in Egypt then, nor that the kiwis had gone into battle with the Turks in Egypt long before the Gallipoli landing! I thought Gallipoli was the Baptism of Fire as they call it, but these guys had it months before then!

Isn't it just. I hope a few more poeple here take the time to read it. I'm amazed how candid it is for the time of war, no real censorship. Mind you, another article I found last night had an interview in October 1914 telling the media how the germans were building 200 long range heavy bombers and 46 airships that will be reay to bomb London in February. So much for military secrets. ;D
