Thought I would start a thread on interesting events of each day.Please add more if you know of anything else.
Today December 29th
2011-I started this thread ;D
1940 - During World War II, Germany began dropping incendiary bombs on London.
1940- Finally abandoning America's isolationist stance, President Franklin Roosevelt publicly recommends a program of direct arms aid to Great Britain
1944 - U.S. Brigadier General Anthony McAuliffe responded with "Nuts" (as in "Nuts to you") when Germany demanded that he surrender the city of Bastogne.
On this day in 1890, in the final chapter of America's long Indian wars, the U.S. Cavalry kills 146 Sioux at Wounded Knee on the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota.

1942 - U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill issued a declaration called the "United Nations." It was signed by 26 countries that vowed to create an international postwar World War II peacekeeping orgnazation.
1946 - About 20 Japanese soldiers surrendered to an American soldier after they read in the newspaper that the war was over.

Our own NZ Prime Minister Peter Fraser was apparently one of the key politicians behind the scenes in setting up the United Nations. Hasn't done the world a lot of good really, there's still war and conflict everywhere.

Were those two Libyan jets the only two claims by F14s in US service?

Were those two Libyan jets the only two claims by F14s in US service? No, a pair of Libyan Su-22s was bagged in similar circumstances in 1981, and I think there were one or two helicopter kills in the 1991 Gulf War.

1941 President Franklin D. Roosevelt asks Congress to support the Lend-lease Bill to help supply the Allies. 1945 Boeing B-29 bombers in the Pacific strike new blows on Tokyo and Nanking. 1946 Ho Chi Minh wins in the Vietnamese elections.
2001 In one of the closest Presidential elections in U.S. history, George W. Bush was finally declared the winner of the bitterly contested 2000 Presidential elections more then five weeks after the election due to the disputed Florida ballots.

The only F15 air to air kill ws in 1991 1st Gulf war when a USAF F15 took out an Iraqi MiL 24 Hind with a GBU 10 bomb. Just another useless piece of information.
