I found this exact same photo amongst my late father's things! He served in RNZAF ground crew in 1945 - Bouganville, Espritu Santo, Rabaul, Guadalcanal, and Emirau were places he mentioned. There were also a couple of shots of Venturas at Emirau, I'm almost certain, from looking at other pictures posted. Another of the nose of a C46 (4-blade prop, Serial no 25 under the nose, a Corsair with 49 in white lettering on the R/H undercarriage, and another tiny one of a Liberator, but no markings visible. His name was Robert Douglas "Bob" Lackner and I think he enlisted at the end of 1944/beginning of 1945. He was in Guadalcanal by Feb 1945. I've sent off for his service file, as I'm interested to know what his movements were in 1945. He was only 18 when he joined up, and died in Nelson, NZ in 1983 aged 56.
