We have a man in our journalism class who is a chemtrail believer, also the Illuminati and the evils of fluroride. He began speaking of the 9/11 conspiracy last week also.
It's tiring just listening to him, the times I've tried to argue with him have seen me go outside for air and to calm down.

It is impossible to provide a rational explanation to a conspiracy theorist. If you disagree you have obviously been brainwashed or are part of the conspiracy - hence their little pet theory is safe. It would be pretty sad to go through life trusting no-one though...

If you disagree you have obviously been brainwashed or are part of the conspiracy My favorite is when they call you a "government-paid dis-info agent". ;D

I'm pretty sure she already knows about it, since I found it by perusing the local chemtrailers facebook page, . I never knew that facebook page existed so I just went for a quick look and it actually worries me a wee bit that there are wackos out there who actually took Scoops replies seriously. I do the same thing, except I go to the ATS (Above Top Secret) site to see what the nut-jobs are talking about. The ATS site ( www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/index.php ) is an absolute goldmine for conspiracy theories from Aliens to Planet-X (Nibiru). ATS also has a dedicated "chemtrail"/Geo-engineering forum ( www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/174/pg1/srtpages ). Most of the believers are sincere rather than crackers They may be sincere, but that is no excuse for being willfully ignorant when soo much correct information and verifiable facts are easily found. That said, I believe that some on the ATS forum are genuinely loopy. If you want a good source of information to de-bunk the "Insane Cloud Posse'" arguments this site is a good place to start ....... contrailscience.com/about/ Yeah, debunking online derp/stupid propogation is something of a hobby for me too, as it often involves overlapping of areas I have an interest and occasional practical expertise in (Science, Aviation, Space exploration and tech, History etc) I'm familiar with contrailscience and ATS. I also spend a bit of time on JREF too among others. ATS I actually have a grudging respect for, in that sometimes some genuinely useful discussion happens there. Those discussions can provide some useful links too in the way of using stuff from a notionally pro-conspiracy site to destroy a conspiracy theorist's argument. Always fun . I shouldn't condone it, but there was some hilarious trolling (since removed) going on on that facebook page yesterday, including the memorably funny "It's alto-cumulus cloud you f***wit!" in response to another posters suggestion that a glorious sunrise was somehow man-made.

He began speaking of the 9/11 conspiracy last week also. It's tiring just listening to him, the times I've tried to argue with him have seen me go outside for air and to calm down. The 9/11 'Truth' BS and the Moon Landing hoaxers are what got me interested in investigating/debunking conspiracies in the first place, and taught me a lot about how they work. One of the local breakfast radio DJ's is a 'truther'. It's a pity, because it's generally a great station. He had a couple of fellow believers on promoting some Richard Gage controlled demolition exhibition in Wellington around the time of the tenth anniversary last year, and I was just about throwing things at the car stereo hearing the same old tired, debunked years ago to the point even other truthers don't buy it anymore garbage and myths trotted out as suspicious 'facts'. Interesting thing I have noted, comparing the comments you see here on sites like Stuff and Trademe to the allegations you see on an overseas based site like JREF, is that the local 9/11 truthers are about 5 years behind their fellows overseas theory wise

I'm curious, what things have happened in the past where the Government/s gave an official story and people reckoned it was a huge conspiracy and there was much more to it, etc, and the doubters were later proved to correct?
Apart from the Weapons of Mass Corruption of course.

Dave I've been looking into 9/11 conspiracy theories for close to a decade, and none of them so far survive a objective critical 'first principles' examination. Not one. There are a lot of myths, assumptions and hearsay presented as 'fact' by certain elements (often those who make a living from it) however.
Some conspiracies have proven to be true, but not this one so far.

I'm not talking about conspiracy theories being right with 9/11, I'm talking about the official Governmment explanation stories whiffing badly of bullshit. Somewhere in the middle will be the truth.

The A380 being french is not a particularly useful or efficient machine when it comes to the spreading of "population control particulates" The problem with the airframe is that the real ability to carry its special payload is undermined by the inclusion of a shower in first class, and a bar in the rear of business class. The B777 on the other hand owes its existence and lineage to the very successful family of Boeing Bombers constructed over the past 70 years or so, moreover the airframe conceals many nozzle outlets that go unseen to the untrained eye. At full rated takeoff power the 777 is able to disperse its "particulate payload" at a rate that defies description....and for the sckeptic...ask yourself this, is it any wonder the population of NZ is sooo low???

Quote Haughtney1 "The A380 being french is not a particularly useful or efficient machine when it comes to the spreading of "population control particulates" Singapore Airlines A380 flight SIA25 after landing in Frankfurt earlier today. Some reports say it was a hydraulic problem, we are still looking for more facts. www.flightradar24.com/#!/2012-06-14/12:30/SIA25 I feel a-380's and dreamliners will one day prove to have more defects than is desirable and be perfect for spreading human particles heh heh. And that will help population control no end. Oh and sorry but Boeings bomber records were shit, typical yanks too many guns and not enough bombs, sheesh even a mossie carried more payload than a b-17 and a lanc 3x more. I admit I love the boeings lines though. Oh and let's not forget, The French are good because they are always there when they need us. Disclamer: All mentioned before this footnote is in jest.
