Huh? There are three flyable here now aren't there? That would make it 33.3% Increasing a population of 2 by 1 is a 50 % increase.. decreasing a population of 3 by 1 is a 33.3% loss. its like calculating GST!

Will both nz DC-3's do a formation flight of some sorts at anytime? So there is a 3-ship formation.

Take off from Auckland this morning from 05R. Isn't it going to Ashburton after Rotorua before heading to Te Anau on Monday? Colin

Ashburton? A chance for Peter Mac to score some vital parts for his cockpit? You're trouble, you are ! Haha ;D Good idea though. I never thought we would see the airworthy DC3 population rise again. This is a very very good thing. I hope things go well in Te Anau. Would love to read an in depth article back grounding the whole project from go to woah. Tear into it Zac !

Yeah it arrived here a bit after 2pm today and I've been staring at it from my kitchen whilst having my tea. Went over and had a look at and through it. What an epic trip. Spoke to a very nice woman on board who has flown out on it. She went to an airshow in France and learned of the plan to fly this thing out here and really liked the idea, so signed up. There are only about 11 seats on board, and they are situated forward and look like 70's era business class. Jeff Cooper was on board too. It landed on the cross wind for some reason and it was a pretty strong cross wind at that.
I hope the Te Anau thing works out. Would be great to see her stay. My new friend said she would love to stay in NZ and help with the venture here, but she has been accepted for training as a French military heli pilot.
The best bit though, ws the young newspaper reporter who fronted up and asked one of the crew if he could speak to, (and I'll have to have a shot at writing this as he pronounced it) Zshhon Ba Tonne. Who, replied the crew man. "Zshhon Ba Tonne, . . I think he's the pilot." replied the young reporter. "Oh, says the crewman realising what our confused young fella was getting at, "Jean Batten." !!!!!!
You had to be there. ;D

DC3 arrives in Te AnauBy GWYNETH HYNDMAN - The Southland Times | 1:25PM - Monday, 19 November 2012NEW RESIDENT: The Te Anau Volunteer Fire service welcomes a DC3 as it arrives at the Te Anau-Manapouri airport after it followed the Jean Batten flight from the UK. — BARRY HARCOURT/Fairfax NZ.BRIGHT BLUE SKIES in Te Anau were perfect conditions for the arrival of a restored DC3 aircraft that has retraced the 22,000 kilometre trip made by Kiwi aviator Jean Batten 76 years ago.
The plane landed safely in Te Anau at noon today and was greeted with a welcome haka.
Destination Fiordland manager Kate Hebblethwaite said the weather was perfect and there was a really good buzz around Te Anau as crowds turned up for the landing at Te Anau Airport.
Te Anau Lodge owner Mark Oremland has headed up the three-week venture from England to Auckland, to closely follow the famous record-breaking flight in 1936 by Batten, who was only 27 when she became the first person to make the solo trip.www.stuff.co.nz/southland-times/news/7969491/DC3-arrives-in-Te-Anau
