Avenger NZ2505 the "sister" to the Air Force Museum's NZ2504 has been gifted to the Gisborne Aviation Preservation Society (GAPS) by the Air Force Museum. I read this in the latest Flypast. There's a quote from a GAPS member Paul Corrin saying the aircraft is a cornerstone of their 30 Squadron display. Be neat to get her and Brendon Deere's Plonky parked together once he has her back in RNZAF markings again!

so where has it been all this time then. Its been at Gisborne with GAPS for a while now but only on loan from the Air Force Museum. I suppose they thought they had no use for another TBF so decided to gift it. Quite good for Gisborne with the 30 Squadron connection.

oh ok thought we might have had it in storage at Weedons or somewhere.
I remember when I was at Wigram back in 81-83 there were a couple of attrition harvard airframes in 4 hangar. what ever happened to them.

I think they would have been NZ1083 and NZ1009, spares for NZ1015. They will be up with the Historic Flight I'd imagine. When I was at the Ohakea Base museum in early 1998 they had NZ1009 (fuselage only) on display.

Ah you speak of NZ2539 with Ken Jacobs. Yes that is a shame and hope something is done about her.

Is this the old Silverstream museum avenger? A lot of work has been done since this photo taken in October 2010.

Yes that is the ex-Silverstream Avenger, which then went to Wigram who held it for a number of years as a swap item. They then loaned it to Gisborne Aviation Preservation Society.
The news that it had been given to GAPS was also in last month's Air Force News magazine.

A lot of work has been done since this photo taken in October 2010. Actually would be quite amusing parking Brendon Deere's Avenger next to NZ2505 given that she also has the Plonky artwork on the side cowling!!!!! (Unless it gets removed in a repaint?) Two Plonkys!

Lucky it still has its wings , they were stolen from Silverstream and recovered from a scrap dealer. Fortunately being an alloy he had to retain for a period before smelting and enquiries ensued.

How cool would it be if some wealthy altruistic individual paid for an airworthy restoration? I always feel privileged to witness the Corsair and Kittyhawk flying together, imagine the Avenger accompanying them too!

Ah you speak of NZ2539 with Ken Jacobs. Yes that is a shame and hope something is done about her. Well yes!! what would it take to prize her out of there? I do realise there is not much of her left and apparently the wing spar is weetbix but it is our history after all dam it. Call me a romantic or what ever but this is just plain crazy if not criminal. They just don't grow on trees anymore!!!!
