True, Dave, but rules have changed and it seems far more difficult to extract historical relics these days.
Now off to buy a lotto ticket.

I still think it will probably be more economic to buy a flying example, they are not that expensive. I am surprised at some of the comments aired here about NZ2539's worthiness to deserve restoration. I am surprised as the comments I've seen are generally positive that she's been saved. Don't forget some of the early posts are quite old as the thread has been merged. It's more that it will be a big job (bigger than NZ2505 I dare say) not that she isn't deserving.

When the info comes from a man who has made a successful lifelong career of recovering and restoring aeroplanes from the Pacific, it's worth listening to.
Unless he is Robert Greinert

When the info comes from a man who has made a successful lifelong career of recovering and restoring aeroplanes from the Pacific, it's worth listening to. Looking at the histories of all 48 of our Avengers we gave several back to the US Navy at Espiritu Santo. Plus NZ2515 which had a landing accident and was broken up for parts so possible something still survives.

Lucky it still has its wings , they were stolen from Silverstream and recovered from a scrap dealer. Fortunately being an alloy he had to retain for a period before smelting and enquiries ensued. Anyone remember what year that theft occurred ?

It was the mid seventies - when the aircraft was at Gracefield prior to moving up the valley to Silverstream. I have the newspaper cutting about it somewhere.

Thanks for putting me right on that time frame Mike, I was beginning to wonder if there was a pair of Ceres wings stolen as well! But this happened all too early to explain their disappearance.
