That photo of ZK-NAQ is interesting. It appears that the lower fuselage is painted boeing grey. Does anyone know whether only this aircraft was painted like that? I'm building a model of ZK-NAC in the orange/red and will be doing it with a natrual metal lower fuselage, but any info on NAQ would be welcome. regards George www.airliners.net should have some pics of NAQ

nice shot that. ideas of where ? Might be one of the volcanoes in the Taupo volcanic zone. I was thinking Southern Alps but the morpology suggests a volcanic cone and the cloud or mist shows cold air drainage so on that flimsy basis I would suggest aircraft is heading north in the early morning. Also in the cone there appears to be plug and if you look at the snow cover note it is on the "southern" (left hand side of photo) side of feature so that suggests a recent wind driven snow event. Not the central north Island volcanoes - the arrangement of other peaks is all wrong. My thoughts - somewhere in Washington State USA before delivery - they have some pretty awesome mountains (including volcanoes) in that area.... Wonder if it was pre-bang Mt st Helens? For all we know, it could be part of the Southern Alps. I don't know if that last livery were painted in the USA on any of our 737's. That image appears to have been taken from the footage of the “NAC Wings of the Nation” advertisement that was shown in movie theatres in the mid-1970s (before the merger with Air NZ). That advertisement was really spectacular and went on for quite a while — a bit like the FULL version of the famous Cadbury's Crunchie ad that also showed in movie theatres, with a shortened version shown during television ad breaks. I seem to recall a shortened version of the “NAC Wings of the Nation” being shown as a television advertisment too. I reckon that footage is somewhere over Westland National Park or the alpine area to the northeast, shot mid-morning or slightly earlier. Some of those peaks look vaguely familiar to me, but I can't quite put my finger on exactly where they are.

Need to start a campange (facebook?) for Air NZ to retro paint the last few 737-300s into both NAC jet era liveries before they go.

ZK-NAC flying over Canterbury. Interesting seeing the contrast between the natural metal underside and the gray panels... Note: pic taken from "NAC: The Official History of New Zealand National Airways Corporation 1947-1978" by Richard Waugh (ISBN 978-0-473-12000-9)

(I think John Hoare Grennall sung it?). There was an opposite "Fly North" ad as well?

I hope you are gaining permission from all the copyright holders before taking photos from Airliners.net and posting them here? Some of the photographers there are very particular about their copyright ownership.

Yes and as a kid I remember going to see it and going inside it at Dunedin. That must have been early to mid 70's

Nice work on the kit.
Have you seen that BPK (a new company) has as their first release a 737-200 ADV in 1/72?
I have one on order, so if you are interested I can report back on what it is like. I plan on doing a NAC one as well. What are Oldmodels decals like?
Great thread by the way....
Cheers Anthony

I plan on doing a NAC one as well. What are Oldmodels decals like? The Oldmodels decals are okay, but not the best, according to Steve Bowe (the modeller who built this kit). He had to do some add-ins with an airbrush. This model kit was an Aurora 1:72 737-200. It was forty years old. Steve really had to utilize a lot of his modelling abilities to get the model built. My hat is off to him.
