Metro Liner with a speed record to Gizzy Thats kinda cool but funny at the same time..... I can just imagine those 737-200 pilots saying "theres no way a stinky old metro is gonna keep that speed record to Gizzy"........ ;D ;D ;D I wonder if it was ZK-OAA that held the record? I would guess not as her records are more for time spent parked up.

Somebody from GAPS may remember something about it.
The Gisborne Herald made quite a big deal out of the record finally being broken after a few decades when they reported on it. It guess it showed just how fast the Lodestars were, when even the later Fokker Friendships weren't able to beat their record, with it finally falling to a Metroliner.
I just carried out a quick search on The Gisborne Herald website, but no results. Mind you, the newspaper wasn't even online until the end of the 1990s, so I guess you'd be pissing into the wind trying to find mention of it archived on their website. However, somebody at the time obviously knew what the record was in order to know it had been broken by an Eagle Air Metroliner.

;D ;D ;D Didn't they say that the Bumble Bee is an aero dynamic impossibility, i think the Airtruck designers had that in mind.....

I like the AIP chart for Auckland clipped on top of the panel - nice touch! Thanks Bruce.....I have the one for Gisborne, the kids just love the railway line right across the runway.. Download and print out the attachment, and your kids will also have the railway equivalent of ther AIP chart for Gisborne. It's known as a S & I Diagram. The numbers above the lines with arrows at each end are distances in metres between points. You'll see a symbol for the control tower at Gisborne Airport which under railways regulations is actually defined as a switch-in/switch-out signal box because it contains apparatus to control railway signals. Nice one Kiwi, ;D ;D ;D I see the signal lights on the map and switching from the control tower, so did that mean that Aircraft had right of way to a train? Still that is an argument i would not want to push, could be a bit expensive.... ;D Hey while on the subject of rail, do you think they will save that line from Napier to Gizzy? Maybe even just for tourists to putt up and down on little tuk tuk type things on the rails, or is it had it, beyond repair???

Oh yeah the 500, sorry for the delay i've been off line for a long while, the 500 up the drive way is the remains of ZK-HMP......belonged to lyall mudford so i'm told......had a big deer hunting prang many a year ago so i am told. Will put up some photos soon, HMP is now a hut for the kids......i would love to see a photo of ZK-HMP from the deer recovery days, if anyone out there has one.

The instrument panel was for sale at Just Plane Interesting, a antique store up here in Auckland. The control columns were there too so I’m guessing the aircraft may have been broken up.
