STUNNING WORK BRUCE!!
I love it, really authentic looking. Even the groundwork is awesome.
The only suggestions I could make are perhaps a few sheep, and some sparrows and starling nests?

That is fantastic! I presume that some of the further weathering you intend will include making the tyres look not quite so brand new? This should garner a whole slew of first place trophies...

Great modelling in an unusual setting. If you were interested in adding the birds suggested above have a look at these brass etches by an NZ company marksmodelworks.weebly.com/kits-and-bits.htmlYou just add a blob of solder to each side of the bird etch and file to shape.

Birds? Dunno on that, cos then youll need to garnish that outstanding effort with a good smattering of guano too. Anyone remember the A-4 parked outside the Ohakea museum? What a sad state of affairs that was..... All jokes aside, once again I'm amazed at the attention to detail!!Well done!

My suggestion was for bird nests, not specifically birds - sorry if it read wrong. As anyone who has been close to a parked up aircraft knows they soon get little neat bundles of straw, hay and feathers in every orifice thanks to the birds.
However nests are a spring thing, and this diorama's grass looks very dry, high summer, so the nests (and as Jonesey points out, bird turd) would be there but the birds themselves may not. The grass is pretty short for lush Waikato pasture so sheep have to have been grazing there in my opinion. Sheep did graze around the aircraft dump, and they used the aeroplanes as shelter. In fact perhaps a really specific detail would be dags of fleece that have caught on the sharper parts of the airframe?

What a lovely diorama! I have been thinking of doing a 1/72 Ventura on its belly at Rukuhia, but tracking down the little details is not that easy. What did you use for grass? I'm definitely wanting sheep and oil drums in my diorama, but also really want some school kids and a bicycle - these are really hard to find in 1/72!

Thanks for your suggestions.
The birds idea is out (mostly) because as you can see from the colour of the grass it is late summer so not nesting time. Most of the bird poo would have washed off by then too I imagine.
BTW the grass is the common railway mat that I hacked at with my electric shaver to make it look more realistic.
I did think of sheep but as you can see from the website that Dave mentioned US$24 for a couple of sheep not to mention the US$35? for postage is just a tad rich.
Maybe some other rusting junk lying around would work.

And I think guano tends to stay in place for a long time - once sun dried it can be pretty resistant to the effects of rain! David D

Great job mate! Is this based on an original photograph?
In the research phase myself at the moment for a series of Rukuhia scenes, all but one in 1:72. Trying to positively ID various serials to make them as accurate as possible.
