More cracker photos!
Dave: ZK-CWG was a Taylor Monoplane, so the only other options are CBG and CMG. If the last letter is a G, that is.

Sorry, that 1930 was my typo, it should have read 1939.
I was just going by what was on the back regarding Brakes. Thanks for the correction.
Is that Jay McIntyre's Waco?

Doesn't Jay have a Waco at Omaka under restoration by his JEM Aviation workshops?

These are not civil aircraft of course but they are international visitors, and don't fit antwhere else so I'll put them into here: Curtiss SOC-1 floatplanes aboard the visiting cruiser USS Louisville, in 1938. Read more about this visit and their part in the Mangere airshow here: rnzaf.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=airshow&action=print&thread=4911

Doesn't Jay have a Waco at Omaka under restoration by his JEM Aviation workshops? According to the JEM Aviation website , yes he does . His one however has previously been registered as both AEL and ALA ( if I read that correctly ) , so its not the same one as in the photo .

I see what you are getting at now Dave.
The Waco at Omaka is a Waco UOC, which was there prewar as ZK-AEL, served wartime as NZ575 and then became ZK-ALA postwar before a sojourn in Australia.
The Wellington AC ZK-ACV was a Waco QDC which was scrapped during WW2.

I guess that 'Athenrie' is actually Athenree, now known as Waihi Beach, just north of Tauranga.
the Hawk Trainer III ZK-AEX was the aircraft that crashed on Great Barrier Island in 1939 killing passenger PWD engineer George Claris. Claris airfield is named in his memory.

Fascinating photos, interesting to see the old Auckland Aero Club ones, I recognise a few names from the AAC archives, including of course Fred North who was the father of Merv North who was our club patron until his passing earlier in the year.

I know George Claris's cousin, Hollie Claris, who was a WWII air gunner in Avengers and Venturas.
