I always keep an eye on Czech modelling sites as it does seem to be a hub of modelling intelligentsia and they also seem to do a lot of civilian subjects as well. I have always thought the Zlin 37 (a few of which were imported here as either turbo conversions or Z-137T's) is an interesting design. It looks like an oversize Agricola and I always thought the shapes would be a good project for a new to the scene scratch builder so out of interest I plugged model Z-37 cmelak into the search engine and came across this amazing build. Text is all Czech but the 43 pages of the thread have some amazing photos which I am sure some will enjoy. www.modelforum.cz/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=63885

The Zlin Z37T's were new build aircraft, not conversions. The Z137T was the new build that followed on with only minor changes to the Z37T.

The Z-37T I believe came out in the early 1980's when Walter developed a suitably low torque version of the M-601 and the Zlin Z-137 I believe was only a redesignation placed in those airframes late in the final production. many would have been produced though as I believe their total airframe life was limited to 3000hrs... so many would have been new builds and not conversions as delictman stated

It was only that you said "a few which were imported here as either turbo conversions or Z137's." Maybe the word was "turbo version"
The Z37T is a new build aircraft, not a conversion of an existing Z37. The first aircraft was a XZ37T first flown on 06/09/81 followed by two other prototypes.
With prototypes and two seaters, fiftyeight were built.
The Z37's were built in blocks (as bit like the M18's) usually in twenty or thirty but sometimes the numbers varied.
They were certainly a well thought out and built aircraft but were limited to 3000 hour total when they were required to go back to the factory for a total rebuild. As for flying, the pilots that I know that have flown them, thought they were great.

Dave thats a bit harsh. Pilots loved them. Just a shame about the low airframe life

Dear oh dear. Where do people get ideas like that? Was it the drugs in the 1960's?
Harsh Craig? Are you saying you think it's pretty?? Each to their own, but I'd call it 'kin ugly.

Is that a real photo or a cook up (not to be confused with c_ck up!). Dave there is beauty in function. Good looks don't always get results!

Hmm, I suppose I function reasonably well so there may be some truth in that..

I kinda like the Zlins, I think its the Agricola similarity that attracts me. I caught up with a couple when we did a trip around the lower SI a couple of years ago, they were bigger than I thought they'd be & as for ugly, well ugly is as ugly does & they seem to do the job pretty well. I've seen a tandem two seat conversion of an ex duster with the radial on the net, Z37 I guess, I thought that looked like a lot of fun. That is a scarey impressive piece of modelling. Steve

Did that De Kellis-Olson Air Truck actually fly well and perform the task as required?

Hallett Griffin's Zlin Z-37T PJO at Kairanga, seems a little more streamlined than some Zlin models

What's that aircraft in front of the Zlin?

That pic of ZK-PJO is pretty much as they are from memory without digging out my pictures, I don't think they're that bad looking especially the turbine jobs, but this is one of their better angles. As for the plane in front could that be a Ceres? Steve.

Zac, how could you ask such a question. It's the worlds only Transland AG-2.

delticman, I'm just a newbie compared to the likes of you! ;-)
When I worked at WAW one of the other young blokes went over there for a couple of days and was telling me about this bizarre radial-engined A/C which Hallett said was pretty rare. I ran a couple of names past him but he said none of them sounded right.

In my defence, I'd never heard of it b4 just now & there is a resemblence to a Ceres I reckon. My story, sticking to it. ;D Steve.
