Ladies and Gents, am working on my latest RC Model, and (a) some of you will be interested, and (b) i need a little help from you guys. Full "build" thread is located at: modelflyingnz.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=109&p=669#p458For those who not want to read the whole deal, is a 6ft span Harvard (prebuild in chinese factory) model i am doing a few conversions and "improvements" on. Has flaps, retracts and powered by a 17cc 1.8hp petrol motor. Previously flew in this guise: But when rebuilt, will look more or less like this: The questions i have for you guys are: (Barf are you still around?) The orange paint, i understand (from the relevant repaint thread about this girl) is representative of the dayglo. I quite like the fact it is orange, is this representative of the real deal? I'm not after hard out uber scale correctness, if it was "orange" then good enough for me! (i.e. not the deep red the ardmore based machines carry?) The markings i will have vinyl cut: - does someone have the font(s) (as a ttf or similar) they can share? - does someone have details of the markings, especially the fernleaf and the fin crest as a resonably high res drawing i can have? (Autocad or similar preferred if poss) Thanks in advance, and will post the odd pic as the rebuild progresses.

127 people have looked at this, so maybe i'll post the occasional followup. Had some great emails from Barf himself at the AFM, with pretty much everything covered. Also had some emails from Pete West, illustrator extraordinaire, with more info, so between them i've got the info i needed. At this stage she's far from finished, but progressing steadily. Any comments, questions etc most welcome!

you really need to change the canopy to finish the look, perhaps a brian taylor canopy would suit better?

Yeah, the canopy... It's on the list of bits i haven't looked at yet. It is at least getting "unyellowed", and if repainted the "framing" will be way thinner. I haven't yet scoured the interwebs for a potential replacement item.

Very nice and you have even got the colour the same as the real one! (Although its not correct in reality for the period as it was Day-Glo orange but that fades very quickly in the sun.)

Cheers guys, your comments are much appreciated. Well, i can report that she flies, and flies well. My old man was actually driving, i'll let him think he's the better pilot, so he got the nod. After an uneventful flight (which is a good thing with RC models!), we had the engine cut out "on finals", thankfully with no serious consequences, but otherwise a complete success. For the flight the gear stayed extended, and didn't use flaps, and cowl was off also (to get at carb adjustments easily), but very happy with the overall outcome. Unfortunately the sun went down before we got a second flight in. Next weekend!

Great stuff! Looking forward to seeing it with national insignia, codes and serials on it. How about posting a little U-Tube type "in flight" video?

It looks great, but oh dear, the port roundel is on backwards. The fern tip always pointed forward, just like the kiwi.

Does the last image appear now? (In flight showing topside). Dave you are quite correct, i kinda knew that but didn't get around to telling the signwriter who made them up, so it is what it is. Just add it to the list of unscale things...

I have just received this in an email from Ron McMullan, so I stand corrected:
"CFL Jenks in his article: RNZAF Roundels Part 2 Post War page 19: "The fern leaf ... an angle of 45 (degrees) to the horizontal axis ... with the butt of the fern leaf in the lower left hand portion of the red disc, as viewed by an observer". Various photographs of aircraft of the era show that the fern tip on the port fuselage pointed backward. The Ventura decal sheet has all fern leaf decals as per the Jenks description. Cheers, Ron McMullan"
