If the columns are 4m apart, then it seems to be about 16m wide by about 12m long or 52ft wide by 40ft long... 4.6m tall at side columns = 15ft and perhgaps 18ft tall down the centre. Thoughts? Nice barn by the way!! Concrete floor later...

What will go in it ? Well it can't be too difficult to guess. Too big for a Cub or something similar. They would be ok for local flights and something to keep your hand in. That leaves us with something more useful, the range to get to the mainland safely. We are now thinking turbo-prop or twin. It won't be a 310 or Aztec, the hangar would be worth more than the aircraft. A King Air 200 would be a little tight for that shed and would be an obvious machine. We can see it is a decent size outhouse also so an eight to ten seater. Possibly a little bigger. Fuel, Avgas or Turbine ? It may not matter so much as supplies of both would be available. I reckon it will be a high performance or customised twin, something like a Panther Navajo. Many of those cabin class twins are being phased out in Oz but would now be affordable for an environment like this. Maintenance may be an issue but a good twin can now be bought for well less that $200,000. If maintenance was going to be an issue then a turboprop would become a consideration. Rather than a twin then possibly one of the single engined PT-6 machines. Something fast, not a Caravan, possibly one of the Piper Malibu conversions. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piper_PA-46EDIT....... That is what you get for watching TV while tapping away here. I took so much time and missed the alighting bit in the previous post. Well I have done my dough. Someone must be able to do a better job of it. I still think they would like to get the 650Km or so though. Otherwise we are back to the local flight scenario, no need to have floats or anything there.

It could be difficult to guess the thinking behind the decision but an amphibian may have the capability to do some form of maritime support.
Living on an island in the middle of nowhere would have to affect the brain and decision making process.
