been able to work on the painting today and have managed to paint in some of the other aircraft. once I have finished the Heinkels on the right I have 6 small aircraft to do before filling in all the fine detail.

Amazing perspective detail - also the softened yellow engine cowling with the prop now visible, the undersides accuracy - well not knowing much about the planes themselves but it all looks fabulous!

I really love what you've done here Don. Is that four more Hurricanes winging into the fray? Or are the Spitfires coming to save the day?
I don't know much about the Luftwaffe, so I'm curious about the different coloured spinners on the Heinkels. Do they indicate different Flights in the Squadron (Staffel)?

Dave they are Hurricanes from 238 squadron who were in action over Kenley that day having been scrambled from Middle Wallop.
In researching for the painting it seemed the German bombers were like the fighters they had different coloured spinners even though they were from the same group. I still have to paint the crest on the Heinkel yet which is red and black on a white background.

Thanks Don. I reckon if you did a print of this painting you'd sell loads on the UK market.
