SAS soldier accused of trying to sell Army items to gun shop

A 29-year-old member of the 1st New Zealand SAS Regiment is appearing at a court martial to face charges relating to the theft of military property later offered for sale at a gun shop.
A senior Army officer has given evidence during a pre-trial hearing that the charges relate to several items offered to the gun shop, Serious Shooters.
Shop staff reported the items to the Army, because they believed they may have been Defence Force property.
The army officer said the items were then recovered by Military Police.
They included weapon sights, a pistol holster, and a charging handle for an M4 rifle.
Judge Christopher J Hodson is this morning hearing evidence in relation to a search and seizure at the soldier's barrack room, garage, vehicle and personal kit at Papakura Military Camp.
Once issues relating to the search and seizure have been resolved, the court martial will begin.
The hearing at the Papakura camp is being heard by Judge Hodson and a panel of three military members.
The identity of the accused and some witnesses are suppressed.
