Hey Chaps,
I thought i'd (re)post a bit of a report on a very recent RC Model event.
Last weekend (Feb 1 & 2) at Mandeville airfield, the Gore Model Aero Club held their yearly event, which is open to all RC models, and public showcase. I (with my father) went along for a fly and a look.
I have repost here some of the pics from another Forum www.parkflyers.org.nz/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=69198#forumpost69198
with a bit of text here to explain a few things that may not be obvious:
Size can be decieving! 900mm span Sea Fury, eats up a whole lot of sky though!
Another Foamy, Hobbyking Vampire with Electric Ducted Fan propulsion. Looks (and sounds) surprising scale once airborne.
No this pic isn't inverted. The plane is a German Multiplex FunCub, and the name says it all. It spent most of the day hauling aloft gliders, toilet paper, streamers and when it wasn't it could usually be found prop-hanging.
Again, smaller than it looks! 1200mm Spitfire. Flies like a dream. And has retracts too.
Larger Spit, Kyosho brand. Electric. Note 4 blade prop.
The FunCub again. Note the tow line and the flaps.
I didn't get the specs, but an absolutely fantastic large Zero, would be somewhere around 2m span, with 50+cc. Pilot loved having it down in the weeds.
The real deal: 2m span, 3m length CARF Lightning. With a matching scale turbine, he would have been getting 300kmh (and real jet noise) out of this machine.
Large (2.5m somewhere) Catalina in Russian colours. Electric, has yet to maiden. (Yes the floats retract too). In front is a Radian, a really good beginners model, being a simple and stable electric glider.
The Zero again, down in his element. Looks like only about 1-1.5m above ground!
A typical view down the flightline, everything from Vintage to a couple of Jets. The A-10 is also turbine powered (twin of course) and looks and sounds awesome. You can get a scale of how big it is, and in case you were wondering about the cost, all I'll say is you can compare it to a very good condition, recent model car.
There were a couple of excellent videos taken of the event too, note much of this is taken from multicopters and/or FPV wings. (because modellers do not use the "D" word.

One thing i often hear or talk to the public about is "my Grandfather/Uncle/Etc flew a ......, can you get a flying model of one?" which always leads to interesting conversations.
So if you hear of a model event nearby, drop in for a look. And thanks for looking here.
