Hi all, Over at WIX and the Key Forum discussion is heating up about Mossie FB.VI PZ474/NZ2384/ZK-BCV/N9909F. Owned for years by Jim Merizan and located at Chino, Platinum Fighter Sales has her as sold in 2014: www.platinumfighters.com/#!untitled/zoom/sitepage_3/image24gk Thickening the plot, the FAA's site says she was exported to New Zealand with US rego cancelled 31/03/2014: registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_Results.aspx?NNumbertxt=9909FHer history can be read here: www.mossie.org/PZ474.htmBriefly, this is "The One That Got Away" - the Mosquito which flew to the US in the 1950s having been sold as surplus. Since becoming derelict in the States it's been unclear whether the remains belonged to the Swedish Air Force Museum or to Mr Merizan. Those who are more in-the-know than I say she's about as complete as KA114 when acquired by Jerry Yagen. There are photos from two years ago at the history link above. So. Shall we begin the speculation as to her new owner's identity?

Zac if you search for Derek Smith (Pretty sure that's his last name)on Facebook he posted photos of picking up the latest (and third) Mosquito from the US to be taken back to be rebuilt by Avspecs. Or go to my Facebook page and find him on my friend list.

I guess the big question is, is it for a New Zealand owner? To stay in NZ? Or to return overseas when finished? Either way, it will be great to see another Mossie airborne! It's amazing to think that ( all going well) we will have gone from zero to 5 airworthy mossie's in the space of a few years.

Anthony Galbraith and I were discussing this today while doing a bit of work on our Austers. What a perfect aircraft to stay here, one that left our shores but now heading home maybe just for a while but who knows. Ahhh well we'll just have to follow the thread when she begins the long journey through the workshop. Pretty sure I know which forum will have the latest gen!

Some space for her in Brendon's newly extended hangar perhaps...... He says, entirely plucking a theory out of the sky....

Urm...wouldn't Glyn's Mosquito be the 'perfect' example to stay here, considering its history and advanced stage? How does this one compare with Glyn's NZ example?

Exactly it would be nice to think that Glyn's Mossie would be the third one to be airworthy. Some how NZ 2384/ BCV would be many ,many years away from doing that??? BUT hey one could win lotto.... yeah right.....

Note that the introductory first minute of error-filled drivel can safely be missed from the 11 minute version.

Ok interesting but nothing new at least for me. Oh apart from the fact i didn't realise he was 80! He mentioned a few health issues so I hope he lives to see his Mosquito fly.

Thanks for the heads-up, guys! I'll do some Facebook stalking for pics.
Dazz, I've often wondered that myself - Biggin Hill was recently extended, and there's an ex-Mossie engine in there.
It would be nice for PZ474 to stay here but even if it's "just" for resto and testing, it'll be wonderful to watch. What amazing times we live in!

While a few here may have seen a Lancaster flying about NZ there will be many that haven't.
