30 July 2014 Media Advisory AIR FORCE ORION DEPARTS FOR MIDDLE EAST Media are invited to attend the departure of a Royal New Zealand Air Force P-3K2 Orion aircraft on counter-piracy operations on Friday 1 August 2014. The aircraft will depart from Base Auckland bound for the United Arab Emirates, where it will join a multi-national task force focusing on counter-piracy. The P-3K2 Orion will be deployed on operations for several months as part of New Zealand’s global contribution to maritime security, and will be operating primarily in the Gulf of Aden/Indian Ocean region. There will be opportunities to speak with the Chief of Air Force, Air Vice-Marshal Mike Yardley, and deploying crew members from No 5 Squadron who operate the aircraft. Media wishing to attend the departure are requested to confirm their attendance with LTCDR Vicki Rendall, Senior Media Advisor, by phone 021 244 0638 or email victoria.rendall@nzdf.mil.nz before 2pm tomorrow, 31 July 2014. Please note all media will need to bring photographic identification to gain access to the Air Force base.
