With regard to the Hager book and Cameron Slater, who is the son of former National Party President John Slater: John Slater was, for a while back in the 1970's, The Administration and Personnel Manager at NZ Aerospace Industries. We referred to him as "Slippery Slater". I think everyone with the name of Slater is probably nick-named "Slippery Slater" but in this instance, the way the National Party and Cameron Slater have behaved seems to fit the bill ........

It's just politicians being politicians.
They're ALL a bunch of liars.
Watch ANY politician's lips moving and you know lies are being spouted.

This political content is pretty much breaking the forum rule against such.
However, before the last two General Elections we have created a special area for political discussion leading up to the election where the banned topic was allowable, so long as people were sensible, adult and played nicely. As this current situation before the next election seems one of the oddest ever and confusing as hell, with a whole bunch of extras crazies this time around adding to the mix, do people here think we need a temporary politics area again? Or are you all, like me, all sick of hearing about the political nonsense?

This is a forum about aviation. Plenty of avenues elsewhere for political ranting. Let's keep it out of this space completely. That's my 2 cents.

I agree with Peter.

Leave it out. It either adds conflict to the forum, or discourages those with views different from the majority from taking part (or both).

I'd rather we didn't have this topic of discussion on this forum if possible Dave. Best left to other forums/sites in my opinion.

Every so often you happen to bump into someone who leaves you with the impression that they think they know more than you... no matter the subject. Whether it is the occupation or the personality but these guys are invariably journalists, policemen or politicians. Some of the better ones are probably aware of their limitations but there does seem to be a preponderance of them that seem to actually believe themselves and the nonsense they come out with. They then wonder why others hold them in a poor light. In an ideal world we would have no need for any of them. Mr Slater seems to enjoy calling any of them out whenever they stuff up, - fine by me. On an aviation related matter I found it amusing that the news of the Texan purchase was first announced on Whale Oil. From memory the article was well researched and factual, ie someone did a little background checking before reporting. Edit, found the link.. www.whaleoil.co.nz/2014/01/rnzaf-purchasing-new-training-aircraft/I remember now, the main stream media caught up with it the following day, it seems the official press release followed also. It was very much breaking news in that respect but I also have a feeling the guys here would have been discussing it earlier as well. This forum would have to be first... wouldn't it ?

Let's leave the politics off this forum, I wouldn't follow it anyway.

Well the general consensus so far is remain politics free, which I am more than happy with. I think we'll stick with that, and therefore this thread is now closed.
