I am going to go and try and find a radiosonde tomorrow armed with a receiver, laptop and some awesome tracking software. These are balloons with a radiosonde attached launched from various locations around the world (in my case Auckland) at various times of the day to record pressure, temp and humidity and send these back to the ground. These sondes achieve and altitude of around 30km (100,000ft) which is the edge of space. I will at some stage be launching my own high altitude balloon (with GPS tracker and camera attached) as a personal project. These sondes are not recovered by the meteorological offices that launch them and I am doing this as a personal project. Stay tuned!
