Thanks Denys, that's what I remember seeing. Your Mosquito is certainly coming along and it was fascinating for me to listen to Dag and Agile talking when I visited, about what they were doing and what was to come.

It was nice to meet you too Baz, and we appreciated your help on the day.
I wish I had taken a few more photos of how that repair area looked when we started. I'll try do do a more step by step account of the nightmare repair we are working on at the moment - for closure once it is finished!

And we were very well looked after too! Thank you Peter and Co!! I need to sort my photos and upload to Flickr too and share on here... I can heartily endorse this and recommend anyone from the Forum visiting to contact Peter (pjw4118) before going. In my case Peter forgot to get back to me but I just rocked up alone to MOTAT & wore my Forum T and cap and lo and behold as I walked in the door (after paying ) a voice said "theres a Forum member!" and sure enough there was Peter who I recognised form his Forum photo. I was Royally looked after and would especially like to thank Peter, Jonothan, Wally and Grant from the Restoration Bay for their interest and hospitality. Now for a first!! My first photo post I hope!! The completed Avenger was being prepared to be moved to the Main Hall God knows where they will put it? The Lodestar was being shuffled around in the restoration hangar with the Ventura to shortly join it.

The highlight of my recent visit to was to be able to have a tour of the Lancaster as a guest of NZBCA. My host was Peter and my guide was Wally thanks again for this amazing experience. I have special interest in Lancaster’s as my Uncle was killed in one flying for No. 83 Sqn RAF (PFF) on 7 November 1942 near Genoa. Also I saw the sister Lancaster WU-16 land at Wellington (in 1962 I think). Anyway I have photographed the MOTAT example on a number of occasions over the years in my regular pilgrimages to the Museum. However I have never been in one. I have included a couple of earlier ones for interest. As Baz62 has recently posted some really nice pictures I will avoid repeating them. 1973 Western Springs Site 1988 The Rear Turret had been removed and displayed seperately if I recall so you could view into the fuselage Current photos It is believed I am where my Uncle was when they were shot down. This was a squeeze but well worth the effort I have quite a few more internal photo's if anyone wants them posted or has a specific request let me know

Great to see the early photo of the aircraft at the other side of Motat, and the interior shot looking towards the back turret. Thanks for posting.

Sorry, mean looking up the fuselage from the rear turret position, and yes it had been removed for restoration down in the workshop, it was out for quite some time as replacing the perspex glazing was very difficult. Still looking like new inside though I see from your last photo. I really would like to have a go in a "live" turret to see how fast they moved around?

The whole of the aircraft both interior and exterior looks pristine and a credit to the team. And yes having the chance to operate a turret would be pretty amazing.

My tour of MOTAT did not finish with the Lancaster I happened per chance to be in the right place at the right time in the Restoration hangar and was allowed to tag along with some other visitors to see the Sunderland closeup. Here is a sample of the photos. I will start with a look back at 1988 from my Archives The structure under restoration has a scaffolding around it and the work areas are under cover. The stabilsers are the the workshop being restored From on the scaffolding under the Port Mainplane you can see the benefit of all the work that has taken place. I am guessing the structure on the Tressle is the Port Flap going by the slots along the top. The first thing that srikes you when you enter is the shear size of the Fuselage. From my observation the restoration work has been commenced on the airframe starting from the stern and working towards the bow with most of the crew stations yet to be started. I hope I can arrange to come back for the Forum meet here. All those who come will be in for a rare treat .
