Hi,
My first post on this great site.
Basically I am looking for details and a photo if possible on two RNZAF skippers who were killed on operations. The first is F/Sgt Keith Fred Shaw 415815 who FTR from a raid on Kassel October 3rd 1943 in Short Stirling EF158 IC-S, a 623 Squadron aircraft. The other is F/Sgt Keith Forbes Ryan 41999 RNZAF who failed to return from Saarbrucken, September 1st 1942 with No.218 (Gold Coast) Squadron. He was skipper of Stirling HA-Q N3714.
I have the ORB, station Records and Errol Martyn's excellent books, it is training details needed if possible and a photo.
Thanks in advance
Steve

Bump,!!!
Perhaps can I ask if any members have any photographs or information on any RNZAF aircrew who operated with either No.218 or No.623 Squadron.
TIA

Steve, Best bet would be to get Keith Fred Shaw's class photo at 1 SFTS Wigram, in early 1942. You could obtain a copy from the RNZAF Museum (Matthew O'Sullivan, Keeper of Photographs) at Wigram. Course number was 24A, commenced at Wigram 10th January 1942, passed out 24th April 1942 as Sgt Pilot, embarked for UK 27th May 1942.
Likewise Keith Forbes Ryan completed his RNZAF Training with 3 FTS at Ohakea on Course 12C, commenced 5th May 1941, graduated as Sgt Pilot 26th July, embarked for UK 14th August 1941.
You say that you have Errol Martyn's excellent books, but do you have Volume 3? (Biographies, and much, much more, it is a veritable monster!) I only ask because you require training details, etc, which are not included in the first two volumes, which is why the third was produced.

Steve , I have looked up our Association records and while we have no surviving veterans from 623 Squadron we do have three from 218 sq and some of their album photographs are on file. Are there particular images you require.

Gents,
Thank you for your replies.
David, I will look into this, thank you. Yes I have Errol's Volume 3, a mighty glad I have too. There was a few details on flights while under training I was hoping to clarify.
pjw4118, Not sure who the albums relate to, so cannot comments on images, other than if they are 1945, looking for a Lancaster of C Flight with XH codes.
Kind regards
Steve

Dear pjw4118,
That is not a problem, always looking for Stirling photographs to supplement the association archives.
How would I go about obtaining copies, are they in private hands or a museum.
Any guidance welcome.
Regards Steve

Gents,
I am within a month or so of sending off my book on 623 Squadron off to the printers. The book SHORT WAR is dedicated to P/O Keith Shaw RNZAF so any help on a photo is welcome. My email to RNZAF Museum sadly proved fruitless.
Kind regards
Steve

Are there particular images you require. Would it be possible to obtain copies of these photographs for volume 2 of the 218 Squadron book?
Kind regards Steve

I have sent you a batch of photos to your email address Hi mate,
What a welcome email, thank you so much. I had a number but some are new to me, a real bonus.
Can you name crew of the two photo's, one against the u/c of the Stirling, the other beside EF184 HA-P. Also the Lanc, what is the story here?
If you want any info on the others just let me know.
Thank you again and kind regards Steve
